Yep, the lock and easy of fitting and undoing was a big seller for us. Honestly though; the feet seem like a potential weak link. They feel relatively solid once cranked down tight and have no slop, but just look like cheap plastic and the plastic feel is a little lacking. But hey, 2 year Yakima warranty and 365 day REI return policy means we can beat them up for a year at least and see how they wear, maybe they'll be great.

I will say, 1.75" diameter round bars are just not ideal for mounting the feet (1" round bars might be ok, but I don't think I've seen them in that general size). The clamps only contact them at two points, one of which is the weakest outermost edge of the plastic clamps. The standard 1" (?) square bars or the Yakima aero bars are really going to be the best crossbars for these feet IMHO.

Either that or use a round clamp cause the flat clamps are bending since I tighten them down.

Well there was about 5 other trucks there camping with us that night. Also i had my pistol in the tent just in case something popped off in the middle of the night. It ended up being a great camping spot and all we saw was some mexican cows along the river. Dont worry... no cows were found illegally crossing into the U.S.

I lightened the shadows of my previous picture so you can see a little more detail on my complaints with the Yakima mounts on my round bars (and also you can see the notches in the clamp that'd make the square and/or aero bars fit more uniformly in there).

The very bottom edge of the C clamp is what contacts the bar and I presume that's going to be the first piece to snap off should we hit a ditch or flex the crossbars somehow.

Not a real issue with the feet persee as a 1.75" round bar isn't one of their recommended cross bar choices. More just bringing it up as I know lots here are running a similar sized round bar setup that this would be an issue for too.

Can't say the same for American's though... but we didn't do anything like that since it was so easy to walk across.

the sales guy who was helping me was also trying to sell me the additional 3 year no questions asked extended warranty when I was buying my tent, and I asked him even if I shoot a hole through the tent with my shotgun defending myself it would still be covered? All he said was if I had a good enough story then yeah..I said take my money!

Did the exact same thing as you, got the same tent, and installed it tonight! It's a pretty good way to save a few bucks for sure.

Definitely. Between buying that, building the rack, buying the topper, and getting the bed lined, I dropped many pretty pennies, but we'll worth it I think!

i just bought a Mt Shasta extended. I set mine up that way on my shell so it will open to the back not the side. This way the back is covered like you mentioned and will be a good idea for when your on trail and don't have the option to open it to the side. Will post pics of mine open on Friday when I take it out

I've actually had a set for a while, but thanks for the offer! That's a steal on those bars.
