Overall the quality and craftsmanship of the tent is good.

A couple aluminum shavings to clean up, like everyone else mentions. Seams look good and every panel, zipper, pole, etc looks to be proper and of the expected quality/fit.

We woke up with frost/moisture in the tent (no condensation mat and it got below freezing for a few hours overnight) but a few open windows upon waking up and it dried out before 10:00 AM.

The 2" mattress was great to sleep on. I'm 6'1" and 210 lbs (smart enough not to quote her size, but "normal" female in her 30s) and I tend to sleep on my side and I have zero complaints on the mattress feeling like it let us down. It wasn't luxury, but it was the best surface I've ever camped on!

The zippers, doors, windows and such all open nicely so I presume with proper cleaning and care they'll do so for a long time.

The cover (for when closed) is great. Feels of proper thickness and quality, attachment points seem sturdy and thought out. Don't expect any unreasonable wear with it.

Our only true complaints are the seemingly weak looking feet/bar attachments that Yakima went with and the ladder.

I guess the feet may hold up just fine and maybe I'm underestimating the quality and advancements in plastics these days, but they don't give me confidence in longevity, so that's that. The second main complaint being the ladder. It is sturdy, though it is annoying how 5-6 sections of the telescoping ladder all bunch together to make one large 1' tall second step. We're mounting the tent to bedrail height bars soon (vs the 8" rise relentless fab bars) and I see this getting worse. Just the nature of the ladder design and the tent being mounted so low on the vehicle, but annoying regardless.

Very easy fix. Extend the ladder all the way out and collapse it starting from the top. This should leave the "collapsed bunch" on the top verses the bottom section of the ladder.

We ended up breaking up the collapsed bits into two bulk groups of 3 rungs each so at least the step spacing was ok overall instead of one huge step up.

For some reason the instructions specifically say to adjust the ladder from the top down and leave any collapsed rungs on the very bottom. I haven't had a chance to look at the design and see if I can determine why that's a recommendation and if we can be confident parting from it.

I've got the BAMF rack and got zero complaints with it. Lose a little bit of visibility out of the rear but not much, Tepui Auntana Sky with all bedding in it and doesn't go over the cab too much.

I have my Tepui set up to open to the side of the truck (mounted on shell). I'd like to switch the orientation so it opens over the tailgate, but just for one event I have coming up. Then I'd switch it back to over the side. I know I'd have to cut the rails down to switch orientation. What are the disadvantages to switching back and forth like that? I know that the rails wouldn't quite span the whole base when I switch it back, but does that cause any problems?

It's best to collapse the ladder rungs from the top. (unused rungs at the top with the rest extended). It will be more sturdy and safer that way.

Shorter "cut-down" rails will be fine.

This is exactly opposite of what the Yakima literature said, but I also don't see why it'd hurt anything (and yeah, I don't know why I read instructions, must be the significant other rubbing off on me tsk). Thanks Adam.

That's a good idea. I'll have to look at how far the rails would stick out past the base. Knowing me, I'd cut my head open on those things if it's at all possible...

Seriously, if u want to know the difference between the tents, you should get off the internet and see them in person. I did my research off the internet thinking yakima would be the better buy. After owning and sleeping in both tents, Tepui wins hands down! Want my detailed analysis? SEE BOTH TENTS in person and get off the internet!

@ItalynStylion just my two cents....(I'll give you a call this afternoon)

There are probably not two more opposite ends of the spectrum in the RTT market as the Yamima SkyRise and the Tepui Kukenam Ruggedized. You're comparing probably the most basic entry level tent and one of the most purpose built, top quality tents on the market. Night and day difference between the two.
