Nope, I'd considered it for my long bed but it overlaps by almost a foot off my tailgate.

It's long, as for wind you should check out their video on Instagram under #Gofsr where they have the tents mounted and open going down a highway. Sweet tents but just wasn't flushed with the truck bed. If you wait until end of June they have a third like the 55 which should fit your short bed.

@sytfu510 has one. It sticks out past the long bed, so it definitely wont fit on a short bed. I considered it, but I think they are more for 4runners, etc, with a full roof

I have Thule tracks with Yakima crossbars on a Leer 100R cap. Over the cab is a Prinsu rack. The FSR Adventure series 55 tent sits about 1 inch higher than the Prinsu. I was extremely concerned about the flex of the truck between the cap and the cab. I don't believe the newer trucks flex as much there like the 1st generations did. I have had no issues.

I don't have a shell currently. I was hoping it might fit on a bedrack, but it looks way too long. It also looks way too long to mount to a Prinsu Cabrac.

Does anyone here have a hard shell RTT?

I am having a love-hate relationship with my CVT Mt. Shasta Extended. I purchased it used from a member here last September, and have used it for a total of 8 trips ranging from 2 to 7 days. Desert, regular camp grounds, a music festival on a lake and this past weekend trip was on a private land in Joshua Tree. I finally came to a conclusion that I would like something else. Here are my main gripes with it:

    1. The truck does not fit into my garage with the tent on the topper, and since I go camping on regular basis installing and removing it is a major pain in the ass. The truck is going to be parked on the street until late November.
    2. Setup and break down takes considerable amount of time (good 20 minutes) and I have to run many many circles around the truck and climb up and down. Undo the straps, unzip the cover, remove the cover, open the tent, undo the 4 bungee cords inside, undo all the butons, install metal things that hold up window shades, attach guy lines to hold down the awning, etc.
    3. Once the tent is on, the truck is pretty much immobilized, unless i want to do the whole setup/breakdown dance again just to run to the store.
    4. In windy conditions, like desert, the tent is really really noisy, and i must use the guy lines to hold down the awing piece above the ladder to keep it from flapping. Well, thats pretty hard, because some places have nothing but soft sand.
    5. (This one is self-inflicted) I bought a second sleeping pad because I am a side sleeper but, unfortunately, I can't fold the tent with 2 sleeping pads, so I have to pull it out, fold it and shove it inside the topper.
    6. Round stick pieces that attach the fabric to the base/floorboard keep slipping out and popping up out of their channels all the time.

I still love the tent, and I love the ridiculous amount of comfort it provides, but I am thinking that a hard shell RTT would suit my needs better, but at a considerable price point.

Any thoughts? Any brands you could recommend that do not have a ridiculous price tag of James Baroud (seems like their users are having issues with warranty claims too). iKamper? BigFoot?

CVT offers a buy back/upgrade program. I read somewhere today they have a hard shell for 2k ish. May be worth a call

    Check out GoFSR

A lot of your complaints, I also shared. I currently have the adventure series and have found utilizing the tent much more enjoyable when out camping. The up and down time is only limited by how fast you can remove and install the cover.

Interesting.... I have not heard of a buy back, and I doubt I would be eligible since I bought it used, but I was interested in a self-erecting tent that @DefconBrix had and emailed the company, but I was told that it did not see as well as they hoped and discontinued and that they are working on a hard shell tent, but would not give me an ETA.

I'm considering a hard shell as well. Check out Freespirit Recreation, they have a manual one, and automatic. https://www.gofsr.com/

Edit: Just saw @Bennett707 suggested them as well, lol

@sytfu510 has the automatic pop up from gofsr. I have a normal tent from them. Good people/price. And you can't beat free shipping

Ooh. These look real good and at a decent price point.

BigFoot is having a 52% off sale, but its only for the next 3 days and I am not ready to just drop this kind of cash right this moment. Need a couple of weeks

Pretty sure I've always seen their prices around $2500 when I looked before. Some sale.

Any recommendations for double sleeping bags or super warm blankets that will fit an RTT? Specifically a kukenam sky tent. Thanks
