looks like $1,995 on the CVT site. List $2,495. We all make our individual choices regarding the price of acquisition and the value we receive over the useful life of what we purchase. Given my personal experience with CVT standing behind and servicing their product, the price seems appropriate and a bit lower than Autohome and others. I'll likely give my Shasta to my daughter and her family and pick up hardshell in the next few years. I welcome more entrants and choice in the hardshell space.

Looking at his thread, that tent looks like a no name Chinese knock-off that could be purchased on DHGate for $700-800. He is not "doing a cheaper version". He resells a product of an unknown quality, bought from an unknown company. I much rather invest more money into a product with warranty and from a company that will stand behind it.

The fact remains. Those tents are no name Chinese knock-offs. You know Chandler and I don't. But I do know CVT, I personally know other people with CVT products, I've had another CVT until 2 days ago and have not been disappointed with the product or their customer service. They also offer 4 year warranty on the hard shell.

Anyway, my post was a reply to:

Good lord just looked at the pricing on those! No wonder why he's doing a cheaper version of it
And if I had to do it over again, I would still take CVT for $500 more.

all of the big brands are Chinese and most likely made in the same factory. If not literally the same factory, than a very similar setup down the road.
yes, you pay for CS. yes, CVT has great CS. When I do it all over again, i'll prob go with a CVT. That said, my odin designs tent is the same damn tent as x, y, z rebranded.

You do realize that CVT tents are Chinese made correct, and also no name until they are printed with the name. So put it this way they are all plain white Hanes T shirts until companies buy them and put their own company name on it

I agree. Everything is made in China. I won't be surprised if these tents are made in the same shop. The difference is that one is made to order and spec, with expectations of certain quality. Another one purchased via website straight from China. Anyway, I am not interested in bickering about this shit. My original comment meant to express that I'd rather pay $500 more for 4 year warranty, customer service and better resale value.

Yes. It is 38" tall inside.

Took my new RTT out for a quick overnight test run on Big Bear mountain. Best night of sleep ever in a tent. Looking forward to a week in the eastern sierras next month.

To whoever suggested the Teton double sleeping bag, Thanks its worth every penny.

I don't see anything wrong with a smittybilt tent. If they offered more colors and were more aggressive with their RTT marketing they could easily become one of the biggest RTT competitors.

Dumb question, but is there any way to convert (macgyer even) a tent like the Tepui Kukeman with the stairs outside of any annex to a Autana where the stairs are within the annex allowing for more privacy? Seems like a pretty dumb reason to get a whole new tent, but I really want the privacy of the stairs within the annex. I just purchased a small RV - everyone google Taxa Outdoors Tiger Moth you are welcome - and it came with a 3 person Kukeman tent.

Does not seem like it. Autana has an overhang that the extended annex zips up to. Kukeman does not. I mean, if there is a will there is a way, but it may be cheaper to just sell the Kukeman and purchase something bigger. I just sold my Mt. Shasta on Craig's List in 3 days. You should have no problem selling it.

Nice! is that the Smittybilt? Looks like it. Gotta love the moon roof. Does anyone know if CVT offers that in their tents?

Yes cvt offers it. It was an option but they may be including it in all tents now, I think I read that somewhere.

You're correct last year's models offered it as an option now it's standard. CVT calls it stargazer.

    I found a Smittybilt RTT for $600.

I'm tempted, but I really would like the XL version.

Can it be mounted with the ladder to the rear and used as a shade for the tailgate?
