Which rtt did you go with?

Appearances tell me you educated yourself before making an investment of any kind.. would that be a fair statement? Considering we are in an owners and BS Thread to learn from some of your experiences

If the hard shells get cheaper or I get more money I'll go that route so I can use my tent and camper but still have a lower COG than RTT and camper.

Looks like the same thing to me. See note 3 supplied with plastic joint connectors. Assuming at the hinge. Really don't care but couldn't find anything on warranty either (not that I really looked) just can't see doing that route based on your comments and from what it sounds like is you just get what you pay for.

Nah no pot stirring ... no one in here is telling you how to spend your money. Im just bringing to light why 95% of guys on here are choosing the big brands over the "knockoff" And I think Joe is also summarizing that it's the customer service and quality control :notsure:

This question comes up pretty regularly, usually when another cookie-cutter brand pops up and looks the same as a bunch of other tents. For sake of clarity for everyone, there are literally dozens of factories in China that are manufacturing tents and they all have some differences. Even different brands that happen to come out of the same factory can have differences in materials, quality control and service. There is a reason the reputable brands have a higher price point, and it's not just because of a name. Cheaper tents still have to make money and the lower cost has to be reflected somewhere. Most often that's in the quality of the material (even if it looks like it's the same) and in the quality of construction (i.e. seam stitching, waterproofing, smaller cheaper frames etc).

Just because a certain brand may claim to be made at the same place as CVT or Tepui or whatever other more well known brand, does NOT make it the same. One thing I can tell you about Tepui is that they have on-site people doing quality control at the factory, not just factory staff doing random checks and the level of scrutiny is much higher. I don't know of any other brand that does that.

Obviously I represent one of the better known brands, but I'm also a consumer just like the rest of you so I understand trying to find the best deal. Everyone has different budgets, different needs but in the end we all want to get the most we can for our money. There is the rare exception but there's truth to the saying that you get what you pay for. Cost is what you pay, Value is what you get, and they're often not the same. The poor man always pays twice is another saying that I see being true more and more often. On a personal note, I like to spend money with companies that are focused on innovation and improved designs as well as quality, rather than with a copy-cat brand that rides the wake of others, even if it costs me a little more. Tepui has consistently been a company leading in bringing new designs, innovative ideas and improvements to the market. That counts for something to me.

Let's talk color, mounting heights etc.

I assume the lighter colors let in more light? Or is this material that much thicker than your wally world tent? I was thinking tan with green fly, but gray looks like it'd block out light a lot better.

Also... I can get the foxwing awning and room fairly cheaply but that would require a full height rack, putting the tent above the roof, raising COG, and potentially impacting mpgs.
