Friendly camping season reminder. I just air blew out my tent from Pismo and the sand and checked all the hardware. Most the bolts for the hinges and whatnot were tight but a few were a little loose. Brand new base and the crazy wind it endured in Mojave plus off-roading. Then it handled Pismo I’d say that’s about normal.

Check all your stuff before your next trip!

Has anyone ran the Tepui Sky Ayer with two people in it? Looking to hop on the REI discount. I'm 5'11 and my girlfriend is 5'4 wondering if we'd be cramped as hell in there. Not looking for a ton of room just enough for me her, and a few small things, water bottle, handgun etc.

I have the Kukenam and it is perfect for me and my girlfriend. I think it is 6in wider than the Ayer and it is 6in that are well worth it. We are not cramped but I imagine we would be in an Ayer. I also tend to roll around a bit in my sleep so I really like the extra space. Either way with the 8ft length unfolded there is plenty of room to store stuff down by your feet or give room for your dog to sleep and the pockets in the side are perfect to keep a pistol, phone and whatever else you bring in at night.

Agreed. My Kukenam is perfect for two people comfortably and I’m part of the broad shoulder and tall type and have plenty of room. Anything smaller I couldn’t imagine two people in.

How do folks feel about ruggedized vs standard with Tepui? I'm sure its somewhere in this thread, but almost 800 pages is one hell of a read! I'm hoping to hop on the yearly REI member deal so I can get one shipped up to Alaska on the cheap and save some scratch. I'm asking because REI has the ruggedized kukenam and standard autana available. Will the standard build be a major sacrifice and should I ditch the overhang/annex(which I like the idea of) for the stronger material? We don't do too much cold weather camping and total are out maybe 15-20 nights a year, but do take it on some tight trails with lots of overhang that'll drag across it. Thoughts?

If I were to buy a new tent I would go for the Autana with the overhang. After using mine in the rain it would be nice to have a covered area under the entry to keep dry. Also if you have the annex I know of people that have used a small indoor-safe propane heater left on the ground inside the annex to funnel heat up and keep the whole tent nice and warm in all conditions.

My Kukenam is not the ruggedized but I feel like it is quality material and the ruggedized would only be worth it if using it in a lot of inclement weather.

I run that tent from REI also. got the same discount. Have taken it out on many trips with 2 people. Although we are a lot shorter then you and your gf. Im 5'6, 5'7" on good days. and my girl is 4'9". hahaha so we are somewhat a lot shorter. However, it has plenty of room for us to sleep comfortably. I usually bring a water bottle, hang eno lights, my handgun, knife, flash light and 2 pillows and a double sleeping bag. we stuff our shoes in a bag at the end of the tent, but being that your 5'11", the boot bag would prob be better for you.

Anyone is mounted a hardshell tent to a camper shell, are you running the 50 or 60 inch cross bars? Looking to put together a Yakima rack and still trying to get input.

Got a few more things mounted up to the datin fab rack. Finally got the highlift up with about 15$ of parts and got the rotopax mounted on the other side. Had to flip the shovel to the inside but it tucks it up and out of the way nicely. Check out datins gb if your looking for a great rack.

I'm planning on doing this also. I picked up a midrise leer shell with the tracks and landing pad built in. I just got back from the local rack store and found the Yakima skyline towers for the tracks. Still not decided on the round bar or the core (aero) bars. I believe the bars are a size medium which are 58 inches long. Just waiting for them to get more bars in. All of this will be supporting an ikamper skycamp on order. I'll post pics when it's mounted.

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Here's mine. Homemade rack and bars. L track mounted to shell, uni strut mounted to locking L track load keepers (removable) used as risers, then (4) 1 inch sq tubing mounted to risers. All but the L track is removable, if I ever needed to.

Whats the remedy been for broken zippers? The little dangle thinggy on mine finally broke off and now I can only use pliers to close it.

    Yeah.
I always just use a zip tie when that happens.
