So I finally opened up my RTT and the only thing that came from it is now I'm too excited to use it for the first time. I'm having a rack built and designed for over my Softopper, but now I'm playing with the idea of buying bed bars so that I can use the tent soon, but also have a 2nd mounting option should I not need the ST when camping.

So for those with a Hard Shell Taco or a Soft Shell, do you regret only having the one mounting option up high over your shell? I like the idea of having the bed bars for short trips where I don't need the storage of my ST. The benefits of a lower CoG, and also wind drag would be great as well.

Kore offroad is having a sale on Bed Bars and I can get 2 shipped bare for $190 which seems like a good deal. The rack I'm having built hasn't even been designed yet so it's still at least a month or 2 out.

So, should I go ahead and get some bed bars so that I have two RTT mounting options once my ST rack is built?

    TIA

for me personally, there is only one mounting option because I'm a short bed. I think the overhang of this tent would look ridiculous if it's below the cab height, so on top of my camper shell it stays.

If I was running soft tent like that again, I would like the two mounting options. Those tents are a beast to get up to the top of the truck if you don't have a fancy hoist system. bed bars would be super easy to get it on.

Yes, get the bed bars and use your tent. The only problem with the short bars is not being able to utilize an annex (to its full potential) if you have one. But BB's do have their advantages as you listed. When your rack is complete you'll have options depending on the type of camp out planned. And options are always a good thing.

I run both options and definitely recommend it- I have the tall rack for camping with the family in order to use the annex and short bars for longer wheeling trips. If you make long trips the short bars will pay off in gas savings and makes your gear easier to secure against theft etc...

Yea, and for under $200 for some BBs I think it's a good investment. I don't have the annex yet so that's not a huge deal at the moment.

Thank you both for the input, time to go place an order

Nice, how tall are those bed bars? I have the exact same tent and just ordered some 8in bars.

10in tall. I was debating going for 12in tall but I'm happy with the height.

I have a question about an RTT....I have the oppurtunity to buy a small off road trailer with Attached RTT to the top. Seller says the tent is fine but the poles are damaged due to a tree limb falling on him while camping. Are these replaceable or repairable?

I'm about to be an official RTT owner. Just need to get to REI to pick up my Tepui. Pretty stoked about this because I haven't been able to get outdoors that much in the last couple of years and this will make things much easier.

Now to convince the wife to get better shoes and some sliders... wish me luck!

Getting better straps and not the shitty Velcro ones. Swap em out for some buckle ones, I still need to do this but I've been rolling camper shell for a bit now
