Hey guys I am new to the RTT scene but thinking it's going to be the way to go for us this summer as my wife and I are planning on driving from NY to AK with our dog. This will actually be my first foray into car camping as I have spent years backpacking, so I don't know what to do with all the space!!

I would like to mount a RTT over my Diamondback SE. I have seen the setup by @Papadave418, but I don't think I want to drill into or modify the cover. Seems like this Max Modular rack with the tonneau cover brackets would work. Are there other racks that could allow for a RTT overtop of a Diamondback? I'm not too concerned with not being able to open the cover.

What are some suggestions as far as brands? I'd like to stay around $1000 so obviously a soft shell. I have looked at Smittybilt, Tepui, and CVT. Any other ones I should check out?

I'm thinking an annex too because there's no way I'm lifting my 95 pound oaf of a labrador retriever up the ladder and I know my wife is going to feel better if he's inside the annex where she can look down and see him rather than in the cab of the truck. Is the annex going to be a problem if the RTT is above the bed and not full height on top of the cab?

You only need to move the lock if you have the cargo tray.

Just got back from 6 days in Death Valley. @KB Voodoo rack, cargo tray, and iKamper RTT worked awesome! I had plenty of room for my camping drawer and my Dometic 75DZ fridge.

The iKamper is awesome, everything they claim it to be. I would set up my tent, pull out my drawer and be cooking by the time my buddy finished setting up his Tepui. 6AEE1532-A4BE-4ABA-9428-CD5B6A92EFCE.jpgDC8CD1E8-ACAF-4E6E-AB9B-5F2769F45993.jpg491D96EA-CC3C-40E1-A7F4-257AEB5DCEB9.jpgDB927289-4E2B-4045-B0C6-5A29913E1349.jpgF6C0A289-65C8-4DD1-A1FD-328F62EE9647.jpg

Awesome. I am picking up iKamper this Saturday and the family is heading up north to Big Sur the following week. How did the tent perform?

This tent is rad. I was solo in my truck and I can sleep in any direction if I’m not exactly level. So fast to set up and very quick to bring down. I stand on my tire and pull the strap to close and lean towards the front to verify the tent is in and same for the back, then lock it up. Maybe 90 seconds.

I used my RTT a bunch so far this year, but only in the summer. What are some tips on RTT camping when overnight temperatures will reach 30 Degrees? I know heaters generally are not recommended for tents, do you use one? If so, how?

Obviously use a lot of blankets, or good sleeping bags, but just wondering if theres any tips you've found to be helpful along the way.

I have a Tepui Kukenam Sky 3 and thinking about camping next weekend in PA. Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

The mr heater little buddy is a great tent heater. Turn it on for 10 minutes or so when you get in and itll warm everything up, then again when you wake up to get warm again. Other than that I like to have sheets around the mattress and I open my sleeping bag slick side down, soft side up, then I throw a quilt on top for weight and warmth. Works quite well for me.

I like the tent. However, the Smittybilt instructions were not good. It referenced things that I needed to assemble that were actually already assembled. It instructed me to cut the ends of the extrusions off at the second pre-drilled hole for the fore-and-aft oriented mounting but my extrusions did not have pre-drilled holes and I didn't have to cut them for the fore-and-aft mounting. It also referenced self-tapping screws to use in the pre-drilled holes, which my tent didn't have the screws to go in the non-existent holes either. That said, we got the tent together and mounted up and I really think this is going to be much better than the previous ground tent that we used.

The LED lighting strip is ok, however I need to get a bed-mounted power port. I also need to figure out how to mount the awning mounts, and I haven't hooked up the annex yet.

Is there any way to mount an awning without a roof rack?
