How does that saying go? "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, ..."

If you've been a reader of previous trip reports, you may recall one of the craziest trips to date - The De-Tour - which occurred almost exactly one year ago (but that just finished writing up and posting). That trip was a great one for many reasons, but it had gone nothing like we'd expected - snowing or raining every day - eventually forcing us to abandon our Tour of Montana and Wyoming for what we hoped were clearer skies, in Utah.

...where it also rained on us.

Even so, it wasn't long before we started talking about "next year." And before long, "next year" was now...

Read all of chapter 1, and get ready for a trip even more awesome than the last!

All good! Ended up not even really worrying about it since Tepui wanted a lot more than I was willing to pay just for shipping...

Yep, pretty sure I didn't get any of those with my Mt. Shasta. I'll look again through my extras bag. I'm guessing that's just to tuck the side panels in while the tent collapses, correct?

Curious about these too for my Tepui. I got them but the instruction manual says nothing about them

Yeah, took me forever to figure out what they were. Some folks I talked to told me they do not to use them because they may pull the seams apart over time.

I’ll try them and if I start to notice failure, I’ll stop.
It’s touch because mine is mounted on my bed and I can’t get to the part closest to the cab to tuck it in, so these will help.

With the bungees I honestly don't even bother tucking in the walls. The bungees pull them in enough to put the cover on. The roof sections between the metal poles are the only things I tuck in.

Understandable. I would do that for the first few months of owning a RTT before I gave up and just made sure I didn't catch the zipper on any of the material.

So I’ve been having this issue ever since I bought the tent in June. Every time I open the tent the hinge does not fully engage. It takes a solid thump on the ladder side to push it into the slot and most of the time it still doesn’t even fully settle in, and most of the time works itself out over the course of a night. I’ve tried messing around with the actual hinge that connects to the top but doesn’t seem to help at all. Any ideas? It’s a tepui kukenam 3.

Here’s how the hinge normally sits when I open the tent.

That's how mine looks unweighted too. Wedges in when I get in. Going on a year and a half now and no issues.

Mines the same. It settles in once I put weight on it. No issues and many nights of camping.

Weird, it seems to get worse with weight in the tent. I've woken up and have been able to see daylight between the two sections of the hinge.

think mine is the same also. I also ratchet strap mine down to my sliders/wheel slightly in case of high winds.

Are you supporting the end up the tent with the ladder? Or just letting the ladder sit on the ground?

If your propping that end of the tent up then when you get in it adds weight to the trucks suspension making the tent sink and the gap would open up more.
