this is why i love my annex and also for it being on the roof. It has some disadvantages but also some useful advantages :)

It was a bit after noon, and as we pulled out of the gas station, I suggested that we eat lunch once we got out of town and back on dirt...Then, as we headed southeast, rain. Not just a little rain either - this was serious, truck-washing rain.

"And so it begins." said Monte over the CB, followed shortly by "F*ck you rain." It wouldn't be the last time...

yeah with my tall bedrack my tent is UP THERE so it gives me plenty of space for the annex and also lets the ladder basically fully extend with no adjustment issues.

well it was for my hardshell tent that went over the cab a little so I had to have it high...but now back to the softshell for more interior space...it's actually no higher than a rack on a camper shell, just looks like it is.

Makes sense. Mine is like a foot lower than yours so it just looks super high.

interior space. it was the first version, about the size of a full size bed. bought it when I was single and it worked perfect for me. now my girlfriend and her new pup come camping with me everytime so we needed more space. I once had a CVT MT Shasta and knew it was big enough, so I went back to that exact tent. Like literally it's the one I first owned lol. since it's the width of a queen bed, the length is extreme, and the height is great...no more space issues for us 2 and the dog.

it does, I'll admit, look super high...almost goofy, but the bedrack does still allow me to stand my 35" spare up and it's just so useful. I don't mind the tent being up high.

Yeah, I wanted to make a bed cage for a pair of spares, but my RTT height is my limiting factor. Wish my rack was just 1" taller and a lot of things would go a little better. Prob gonna have a custom one made before too long.

yep, always something needing changed right? lol. I had Eddy with SOS custom make this one since he makes a softopper bed rack I knew he could make it the right height pretty simply.

if I had the spare dough that's EXACTLY what I'd do. having dual setups is ideal, but this is what I have to work with. I did absolutely love that tent, probably would've loved the larger one even more, but even just the height of it not being able to sit up straight made it a challenge for myself and the girlfriend to be able to function in there. CVT's with the awning looks SUPER nice.

oh snap that's crazy. I'd have to stick with a bedrack then. as much as I loved my camper shell the bedrack is way better. only disadvantage is water proofing, but that's not hard to do with containers and whatnot. camper shell was too much trouble to take on and off, always worried in the back of my mind it might crack a little...prinsu's are a PITA to get tents onto since they are so close to the roofline...etc etc.

Well I thought my setup would be super awesome, and it is. But the truck I used as my inspiration was a 3rd gen that I think has a 1" taller bed.

Gonna me mine full length instead of the C4 design that comes a little short, then have an upholstery shop make a canopy over the top of it, so basically like the bush trucks in Australia. Essentially a DIY Can-Back

wuuuut. How? i take mine on/off easily. Its mounted to the crossbars. I lift, slide on and it falls into place, screw in the bolts. Done. 15 min tops.

**i have cut my bolts down to be just below stop nut**

do you have a lift or hoist or anything? I don't so I had to slide the tent up onto the rack. Therefore having the crossbars on made it that much more difficult to slide it up. So I had to keep them off and once the tent is up top I had to shove my arm between the rack and roofline and reach in to tighten the bolts. possibly would've been a better way but it's the best I had come up with..

just me and a friend/neighbor. But im also 6'9" so its a tad easier to reach. Cant get too much of an angle or it can dig into the roof without cut bolts.

Soon, when i lay my RV parking concrete im installing a pole with a crank/hoist system to use as an RTT boom.
