    LOTS of folks do and for the price you can't beat it. Just gotta ask if you want a few of the other upgrades. Course for the price you can always buy the accessories and even a new mattress.

    Just now joining this thread as I'm starting to look into an RTT.

    First question: Are all RTTs pretty much the same? What makes a $2500 or $3000 RTT so much better than one that costs $1000?

    Brand Name and Size and "rugged" ('built tougher') when it comes to soft/"typical" RTTs. Then you can spend more for hardshell and automatic hardshells

    So like the Smittybilts are a Brand Name and on the lower end of the price spectrum. ~$700-$800. They seem to have a lot of street cred.

    Are they pretty good?

    Great place to start- the only thing that any other brand would have different is zipper instead of velcro travel cover (Which some people prefer) and a cheaper mattress (which can be easily upgraded). The ladder is different from some brands but can also be changed. Also you need to decide if you want an overhang or not.

    interesting. I vaguely remember seeing in a video there were bungees or straps to help pull the sides in, but I don't see any of those.
