I am fairly new to RTT’s so sorry about the questions. I was looking at CVT tents problem is we are a family of four with two youngish kids 6 and 8. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a cvt roof top with 4 people? I was also considering a softopper with a set of mob town racks and a rtt on top of those and have the kids sleep in the bed. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. I have a double car short bed if that makes a difference.

Anyone have issues with their annex leaking? Seems that the sides have folds that create pools of water outside which eventually leak in. Literally have pools of water in the annex. Tent itself never leaks.

Do I need to ensure the fabric on the annex is tight enough so that the rubber stays in a tub shape? I have a slightly lower bed rack and the annex doesn’t fully stretch out of that makes sense. Any help from others with annex experience would be great. Thanks.

I have the same situation and also just getting a RTT. My plan is to use the annex with the ladder inside of it and put the boys "downstairs" in the annex on a cot or air matress and the wife and I will sleep up top in the tent.

Exactly. Luckily my two are small enough for upstairs but pretty soon we will move them down with air mattress

Thanks @WETaco i pitched the idea of the tent to the wife and she was like go for it I don’t think we will get one for this summer but I think we will start piecing everything together for next spring. Now it’s to start deciding on a rack system and all that fun stuff

I’m in the same boat. My boys are 9 & 11 now. We bought a Mt Rainer about 8 years ago and was fine while they were small. I upgraded to a Denali 3 years ago because the Rainer was getting a little tight. We have plenty of space in the Denali, but it’s on a trailer. Putting that tent on a Taco would be tough. In hindsight, I wish I had kept the old tent on the trailer, and put a hard shell or GFC on the truck.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking if we got the extended and enclosed annex and putting our daughters down there on an air mattress or a type of cot would feasible as well and getting a smaller tent that would fit on the truck. I will probably make a call to CVT and see what they recommend as well. Thanks again

I like this. I want to do this kind of set up with my softopper. What tent cover are you using for the tailgate / camper shell?

I'm not sure if it will work with a softopper. The back window when it's open holds it in place but it's a DAC midsize truck tent. I think there is a 20% off code somewhere for this site. http://amp.campmor.com/c/dac-mid---size-truck-tent-20746. I paid $120 total after the discount. I cut a bunch off the top and had my mom resew a bungee cord in it, then used some suction cup mounts to hold it to the truck. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JS1R3V6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_dvwgDbP8HVJ6Z I'm going out in a few days I'll take some pics of how I have it set up.

That’s cool! Definitely post some. Softopper has a “tent” available they sell. It’s about the same. Always looking for options other.

@Cascadia Tents @Box Rocket Have you guys had any experience with this issue with your clients (I heard you no longer rep Tepui Adam, but hoping to tap into the experience of either or both of you).

I'm thinking the zipper on the rubber floor needs to be a couple inches off the ground and I can use clamps to pull the annex tight and ensure the fabric at the bottom stays tight and doesn't pool up and allow water to sit, which then leaks into the annex. I sure wish the annexes had their own rain fly or a way to push rain water away from them like the windows on the actually RTT have.

EDIT - I'm also in FL, where rain is a real issue to account for in camping. So, one way or another, I have to figure out how to make the annex water tight like the RTT is. If I figure it out, I'll post it up in here.

Just adding to the RTT glory shots! There would have been no spot to put a ground tent where we were staying at, but with the help of a couple of bigger rocks, we were almost dead even.

Damit... I was headed that way in a few weeks. Everyone said we should go and that it's a "great place". Need to change my plans now.
