R.B. Winter State Park and Bald Eagle State Forest

This past weekend I camped at R.B. Winter State park and then drove the state forest roads in the area to check out the dispersed camping spots in the state forest. [IMG]

When I first arrived to the site I had a guy ride up on his bike and say "Hey don't leave anything out on there". What? "Don't leave anything out at night. This morning the last guy heard something and came out of his camper and there was a bear sitting on that table there eating a stick of butter." That's a good way to start a weekend! Yes there are black bears in the area. The dumpsters are bear resistant and the park is putting in small bear resistant trash "safes" around the camp area. Besides the juvenile that was seen sitting in my site that morning there has been a sow and cub seen at the far end of the campground multiple times from the reports of park staff. The sites here seem to be closer together than other state parks I've been to. I wasn't happy about that, BUT overall it was a very quite campground compared to others so I can't really complain.

More in the Pennsylvania thread with some Bald Eagle State Forest roadside dispersed camp site "reviews"

Annex with the dogs crates in it. Dogs are crated at home we go to bed, it's their safe space and they like it. Keep it the same when we go camping.IMG_1839.jpg

Looking at a smitty over lander. How’s the space in those? What kind of bed racks are recommended?

i put a 2" foam topper in my Mt Shasta, so far its an improvement for sure. I added sheets on top so in the summer no bag needed.

Says it's 56" wide, which is about the same as my FSR. I've had a buddy crash in mine with me and my 55 lb. german shepherd mutt, and none of us came into contact with each other overnight. Plenty of space for me, dog & +1

It’s on how it came from the factory. Never took it fully off so didn’t think anything of it. Guess I can flip it around next time I’m out.

I’ve owned mine for about a year. Run kb voo doo high rise bars and it works great. Flush with roof line. Myself, wife, and 5 year old fit pretty well.....for now. No regrets whatsoever!

Not gonna unbolt my rack. It's on a Diamondback Cover which have pretty good locks but with RTT can't be opened anyway. One would have to unlock the tailgate and spend quite an effort to crawl under and unbolt. Be easier to steal the whole truck!

That was my logic haha if they want it enough they’ll steal the whole truck and take what they want.

Snagged the Opolar fan of Amazon as suggested. Seems solid for the price. Wish I had it a few weeks ago
