Mine has a washer on each bolt, and they were with the kit. I dont see a washer in the picture that you are showing, a washer would have prevented that.

Edit: I also believe that you over-torqued the fasteners unfortunately.

Edit: my $700 Smittybilt has these cool insert things that fit nice and snug inside the channels which does an excellent job of spreading the load evenly. I am very much surprised that your much more expensive FSR RTT doesn't have the channel inserts.

It didnt have a washer. It had the locking teeth washer thing. Don't know the real name for it..

The standard washers you see, are for the knobs from FSR.

Im not doubting WEW product or shaming it in any way. And i wasnt torquing anything down. I was just using a wrench to tighten things. No power tools at all.

But no worries, he is sending me a return label, and taking care of things.

@nvnv and @MonkeyProof are correct, your tent appears to be missing the aluminum inserts that would normally hold the bolt in the extrusion riveted to the bottom of the tent. That is the only reason your tent rails are now damaged, it has nothing to do with the WEW security mounts at all. Returning them will not solve your problem. If you don't have the sliding aluminum inserts that should have come with the tent, then get some fender washers that fit the bolts and the rail and stack 2 or 3 washers together on each bolt. That will spread the load on the bolt head and prevent the bolt from pulling through the extrusion like that. Even the shitty factory straps will have the bolts pulling through the rails at some point. It's a disaster waiting to happen without some sort of insert in the rails to support and spread the load of the bolt heads.

Wondering how many of you are using bed stiffeners and if not any issues.

I keep going back and forth on this.

    Thanks

The bolt head fits directly into the extrusion.. it doesnt twist. Do all tents have the same style mounting? no. o_O

Ive never had a problem before this. I am going to go back to the straps. They are not like the flat tie down like on other tents. Im not saying mine are inferior, but Im not going to stack washers either. Im just going to slide my tent back to where it was and secure it that way. Its been through tons of different situations where it could move, and it never has..

Still asking for problems IMO. Without something to spread the load of the bolt head, even the factory straps will eventually pull through. The WEW mounts made it happen faster because they wont deflect like the straps will and therefore the bolt head pulled thru faster (immediately). If the factory that built the tent has you installing the bolts without something to spread the load, they are doing it wrong and creating future issues. I'm glad I didn't buy one of their tents because that is just not safe, regardless of how long you have been doing it. Good luck with that.

GoFSR tents just use the bolt in the 8020 track. I have one too.

    Yeah.
I put the Total Chaos bed stiffeners on my '18, but I never had problems on my '12. I have more weight on my '18, though, now with a heavier ruggedized tent and additional stuff attached to the rack. Worth it to me for both peace of mind as well as additional anchor points.

    Yeah.
That's kind of cool, but I think I will stay in the CVT family. The thought of making that noise in the woods creeps me out.

its really not that loud, and only lasts for a minute while the tent opens..

a crackling fire would be louder

Damn. Sure thing. Very poor design in my opinion. For all of those who have this tent I would suggest fabricating a rectangular 'washer' about two inches long to spread the pressure over a greater area.
I would think this should prevent this from happening with snugging the mount down and reduce the chance of this occurring overtime on aggressive trails.

I installed Total Chaos bed stiffeners before I added my bed rack and RTT. I did it for piece of mind. I could literally see my truck bed square up when I tightened them down. I also love the extra tie down points they provide. For how inexpensive they are I would recommend installing them for peace of mind alone.

I have used Inno bed stays with Thule bars and a 140lbs tent, the one off Demelo (TacoDoc) jumbo rack with the same tent, and a one off bed bolt and rail attached rack with integrated swing out (OutbackHack) with same tent.
While I have considered purchasing them, it would be primarily as tie downs and a bit of overkill for my setup. But overkill tends to be what I do.
I feel it greatly depends on what you are doing and what type of rack system you are running.
All of my racks I have used so far were heavy duty, DOM tubed and no flexible (meaning they held the bed sides ridged).
Now, if you are running something like a modular rack, bed crossbars using Inno or Yakima mounts, and a heavy item such as a rtt, I would recommend stiffeners as all of these will flex and or shift with heavy loads and off road stresses.
It looks like my new tent is arriving a couple days early and I hope to have it mounted up tomorrow evening. It is a heavier tent than I have ever mounted at 195lbs (surely that cant be the weight of the tent itself) and I will be using second hand bars I have never used (All-Pro bed bars). I will see how this setup appears after install and hopefully, trail use this weekend.
