CVT Mount Shasta comes with the Annex room if I recall correctly. I know mine did a year ago.

I've never personally been inside of a Smittybilt, but the cover (when closed) leaves much to be desired. Is the ~$800 price difference worth it? Honestly in retrospect I can't say for sure. BUT I did snag my Mt. Shasta Standard during their CVT Summer Sale last year and for something like $1,350 out the door I still to this day feel like I got a killer deal on a great tent. I'll throw my hat in for the CVT vote, and their customer service is second to none. The Smittybilt does seem to be a killer value, though.

I just picked up the Smittybilt XL about a month ago, have 4 nights in it thus far. All cold nights, 1 rainy day and one of those nights with 40-50mph wind gusts. I was in the same boat, wanted an entry level tent that didn't break the bank. My budget was 1500 with the home built bed rack. I will say if you have a 2k budget thats just for the tent definitely go with something better than the Tuffstuff or Smittybilt. While I don't have anything negative to say about the Smittybilt if I had a bigger budget I would have gone with something a bit nicer like a CVT, 23Zero, or Freespirit.

This was taken this past weekend getting one last weekend of camping before it gets too cold. It rained all day Saturday, Woke up to water in the annex because the sides flipped over on itself and water sat on the nylon. Saturday night we hit some serious wind, the rain fly started to lift a bit and required re-tightening. Luckily I was already awake from the noise of the tent shaking like crazy, but it held all night.
Any questions you have shoot them over to me, I would be happy to give you more info if you want it.

So my 17 Tacoma has a 5 ft bed. I currently have a ARE HD camper shell with Heavy Duty rack on top. I have searched high and low and cant tell if something like a CVT Mt Shasta will fit directly on top without hanging over the cab. Dimensions on the website says 56 x 48 closed so one would assume it will fit with 2 inches to spare front and rear right?

You will be fine. Bed is 60". As long as the back of the topper isn't too sloped (and I am sure it is not), you will be good.

Anyone want the mattress that came with my CVT Shasta extended? Spent 4 nights on it before upgrading to the Tepui luxury mattress. Located in southern NY. If I could figure out a way to ship it you pay the shipping and it’s yours. Getting tired of moving it around in the basement and it’s soon to be thrown out if nobody wants it.

Tepui Autana is big enough for 2 people easy. It has the ladder under the tent and has an annex room included on REI for $1500 shipped during their sales. CVT are also similar quality. Smitty and tuff stuff are still good quality but depends on how much you are gonna use it. Honestly i think most are satisifed with the lower priced tents just as much. My next tent will be the Ikamper hard shell, probably the micro for my use and use the tepui for family trips.

You can rent them from some places. It has its pros and cons. it is nicer during bad cold/weather then on the ground.

Yes, your shell should be roughly 60x50 so anything within those dimensions will fit. You can have some hangover but you want to make sure the tent sits alittle to the side it opens to make sure the hinge part and annex slide is accessible between rack and shell.

Yup but I need to sell the tent first. Find a buyer for my trailer and I'll give you the awning room

For those of you that use a heater buddy in your rtt, where do you put the heater? I had it balancing on some leveling blocks in the corner, but I don’t like that long term. Are there any small tables that work well?
