I have mine open in the passenger side the 270 awning on the drivers side opens to cover the back. So more or less mates up to the RTT for shade.
I swapped my rack to a lower one so the awning no longer works for me if you are interested. It is one of the no name ones from a group buy here. Worked fine the one time I used it.

I am kinda interested. I had one that I sold from the ChandlerDoom group buy, but kinda regret it. I wont be ready to buy for a couple weeks though.

Without a doubt. While I can somewhat appreciate that kind of thinking(passenger side for emergency on side of road camping),I personally think there are way to many variables involved to even think that would be an important deciding factor.

Anywho, Im just going for the drivers side ladder and just role with it until the need comes otherwise. I just always pictured it on the drivers side to begin with.

Lots of bolt on chrome stuff
I have tried it both ways. What was best depends on other accessories mounted and how your cargo is packed. Driver vs passenger in itself didn't really matter.

I set up my tent to open passenger side when I picked it up. My thought was I dont do a lot of off roading so most of my camping is in glamp grounds. Every glamp ground I have been to is set up for trailers and the fire pits are on the passenger side of the lot.

When I have my annex on this means I exit the tent and walk out the annex towards the front of my truck then have to walk all the way around to get to the back of it where the cooler/gear are at. I initially thought that would be the best side in case I do road side camping on a trip as well but that never happened.

I think going forward I am going to mount it to open driver side so the annex door is at the back so you can step out and grab your stuff. Also I want a 270 awning and that will work best for being covered for rain when stepping out of the annex. The only down side is now my tent will open into mostly brush sides of glamp lots but that just means I need to park closer to the right side of the pads.

I am working on collecting parts for a trailer build and I think I am going to follow this same mentality for the trailer. Open to the driver side, 270 awning to cover the rest, and step out the back of the trailer/annex.

Also Smittybilt XL with annex for reference only one door on that annex.

    Part 2

...And then, a final fly-by. Just a single jet this time, and lower than all the rest - by quite a margin. He came tearing through the southern end of the valley as he banked towards the dunes, the exhaust obscuring the Inyo mountains behind the plane. Perhaps only 60-75 feet above the top of the dunes, the ground shook as he *gained altitude* in order to pass overhead - and then through the gap.

Anyone with the iKamper XCover who’s been able to leave blankets in the tent when closed up? Or even an additional mattress?

LOL, not so many blurry ones - the camera focuses reasonably quickly - but I did snap a lot of photos since I knew the composition would come out better on some than others!

...My loop would take me along an old abandoned mining road high into the Last Chance Range. Along my way, I'd pass through the narrows of a wash and badlands of black shale. I'd find the Last Chance Mine and it's surreal mercury retorts - some of the most interesting mining remains in the valley - and then, I'd skirt along a high ridge past two other mercury mines with breathtaking views of Eureka Valley.

Just a bunch of old crap
When I had the old style side opening RTT, I had it deploy to the passenger side because I have my awning on the drivers side

Now I have other options with a detachable ladder

I have always set up my RTTs to open passenger side and have the awning mounted passenger side as well. Takes up less room than both sides and I used the idea of pulling to the side of a trail or forest road as the primary reason (only because there was no other specific reason I could formulate). I have liked it that way and see no reason (for me) to change that. The nice thing is, if you don't like it, rotate it and see if you like it that way better!

My awning is easily removed and mounted on the other side as I see fit. It currently attaches to a Thule rack that also holds my kayak.

How do you use the tent and an awning at the same time on the same side?

Awning goes from the back of cab and forward past the windshield a bit. Tent is over the bed. It's not as high but without the annex, you can put a couple of chairs under the tent overhang and increase the usable shaded area.
Awning is an ARB 2000x2500. Just a rectangle. This arrangement would not work with a 'bat wing' type awning.

I’m sure this has been asked a few times.

    thinking of buying this setup:
Prinsu Top rack and Standard JB evasion RTT on a camper shell.

Has anyone had a problem on mounting a rack and RTT on their non-reinforced toppers?

I haven’t bought a shell. I’m looking at LEER or ARE. ARE from what I see has a reinforced option but I don’t like how I wouldn’t be able to mount a prinsu top rack.

    I’m 200lbs
    My wife is like 120lbs
    JB tent 150lbs
    Prinsu rack?
