How you see it in the pic is how it has to be oriented. Just pretend you are standing at the tail gate looking into the truck.

The bed rack rails with the slots are parallel to the mounting bars on the tent. Which is why I might just mount to the bed rack bars that are perpendicular

When I mounted my CaliRaised.. I adjusted the crossbars (running from cab to tailgate) to match the mounting rails under the RTT. Then attached that way.

Wow some great information in here, have never really dove into the thread but had some questions and guess what they were here....:D

So anyways got the used RTT last summer and used it on top of my soft-topper and built a rack over it, worked out well but in the end wanted a shell. Found the shell finally and now just need to fab up a rack for it so I can mount the RTT when I use it, otherwise it hangs from the ceiling in the shop.

Is anyone removing (not installing) the extruded aluminum attachment channels and simply bolting the tent to the rack? (through the tent base)...

Not sure if the tent base would be strong enough to do that...?
    Maybe contact the manufacturer!

Overdue for upgrade mods with suspension, wheels and tires. ...however, stock suspension, wheels and tires have been good enough for some memorable adventures the past couple years. Might try to get the winterizing products from Tepui to help make the Ayer II more of a four season tent. :D

Nice pics. About 90% sure I'm going to have my new tent open to the rear too. Just want to make sure I still have room to cook and everything on the tailgate. I'll test it out next week.

Nice setup, but imo it looks kinda funky sitting way back there. But i get why you wanted to open your cover..

About to pull the trigger on a Tepui Kukenam Sky 3. Just curious if anybody here has some considerations about it?
Or if there are any suggestions for a sub 1500 tent with similar amenities to look at?

May be risky in case its gone, but wonder if you would be able to wait for the 20% off coupon that usually comes with member dividends to purchase it. Onsale and 20% off and using dividends was how I bought my tent from REI.
