It's a standard form letter sent by their drones at regional headquarters. I believe they NEVER willingly grant a buy-back. I got the same letter on my repurchase demand. They literally email you a PDF of the denial.

Honestly, do what you can (lawyer), but they might have done you a favor lol. Them stringing it out as long as possible means you get to drive a vehicle longer with no depreciation (not that tacomas have much).

    But yeah, lawyer time.

It's not a favor to anyone but themselves. They are doing delaying tactics to get past the lemon law eligibility period. Toyota's de facto position is that they never manufacture lemons.

Corporate did tell me Toyota does not buy back. No policy. Buy back is all ran through the dealership.

Which is my point exactly. They send you an email asking for documents and such, stuff they already have access to (assuming you financed through them), and then drag their feet for a month as a delaying tactic. Whatever the dealer is on their own end is entirely up to them and at their own cost.

LAWYER!!!!! I’d sue both the dealer and Toyota manufacturing. Then I’d take it to the news and blast it all over tv and see how they respond.

Well yeah, they want you to forget about it (somehow) and miss your state lemon paperwork deadline. My advice is just don't. I talked to my states attorney generals office and they were very nice and explained some things I didn't know about (even reading the laws and pamphlets) definitely worth a 10 minute phone call.

Your demand letter is just a formality giving them one last chance to fix it. They've declined. Now it's on you to either get a lawyer or file paperwork with the state.

Some states let you choose whether to buyback or replacement, some let the mfr choose whether or not to let you get a replacement.

Edit: for the state paperwork, they explained that I can file it and explain to them I'm still working with the MFR to resolve the issue (obv not your cases). It can be on hold on the states end no problem, just need to get the initial paperwork sent in before the deadline.

I have lemon lawed and a vehicle before. It was a jeep that they had to do was replace the transmission under warranty and there would be no issues. I had that vehicle in constantly. By the time the lawyer got involved in the jeep had 24,000 miles. I had bought the jeep with 21 miles on it. My problems started about 1500/2000 miles. I’m not sure when the OP’s Problem started at what miles but I know in Pennsylvania if you have reoccurring issues that are not resolved that started under 12,000 miles then you have a lemon law case. Jeep didn’t buy it back but i took the hush money and sold the vehicle.

The letter from Toyota on May 13th letting me know it had entered review had the completely wrong VIN # (all characters), the letter I received June 17th also had an incorrect VIN # (1 character). It will get interesting in a few weeks here.

They'd like that. Design defects aren't covered by lemon law. That's why they use the particular phrasing in the work orders, "operating as designed". Do NOT bring up those sort of speculations.

^yup. Unfortunately, a lot of attorneys are lazy and don't want to do battle. Most won't take Toyota cases because apparently, Toyota rarely settles.

Going in for this work list tomorrow, no updates on further actions besides that. Likely in the next week or so I'll get into those.

    • Valve Cover oil leak/seal displaced
    • Re-do sh*tty exhaust work (solid bolt replacing 1/2 of junction where spring bolt was located)
    • Rusty Pinch Weld Body Work
    • High Pressure Fuel Pump
    • Glass Repair (4th time listed on work order, work not done/under wheel/tire/glass/pdr warranty through Toyota)
    • Wheel Repair (3rd time listed, work not done)
    • Felt added to steering wheel cover
    • Felt added to passenger a-pillar
    • PDR repair on body

Is this guy's issues common for everyone, or just this poor soul?

High pressure fuel pump and rust are common. The others on the last repair list above my post, not so much. I actually think he's getting WAY more dealer attention to his complaints than the average person does.

The 3rd gen forum is full of related problems. Even one out-spoken member (Smitty) got banned for revealing his 3rd gen problems.
