AZBACKCOUNTRY..You guys still alive? I went on one of your runs about 10 years ago out to the Coke ovens. I have a stock 99 Taco and that big step on the way to the ovens was a bitch to get over with the stock suspension.. I'll have to look up your website.

I see no grill. looks like you just cut out the old grill and threw some lights in there.

I'm looking for the grill that has the rivets all the way around it, upper and lower areas.

WOW, tough crowd! i'm at work and trying to post pics for you guys. I didn't realize that people are checking this thread every 2 seconds while at work.... jezuz go easy on the new guy!

Ok so it is obviously similar the traditional satoshi, but it requires a lot more dremmel work and sanding to be able to work with the contours of the grill. It is a three dimensional grille ... like a grillcraft at the top and a satoshi at the bottom. The photos should be fairly explanatory. The hardest part (other than cutting into my new grille with no DIY to follow) was all the dremmel work followed by shaping the mesh perfectly so that it fit flush with all of the contours of the lower part of the grille. I know it looks pretty easy, but once you do it yourself, you'll scratch your head a few times trying to figure out how the hell to work with the curves and the 3D nature of the mesh. I'm calling it the MIRAGE cuz I'm patting myself on the back for cutting into my new 2012 grille and making a DIY for the rest of you to see. I read a lot and learned a lot on TW. I wanted my first post to be helpful.

PS...yes there is a grille there. It is from customcargrills.com Hexagon XXL mesh

    Step 1: Masking off grille

    (2) cutting off grille
    [IMG]

    (3) creating mold for fibergalss inlay (this is challenging cuz you have to create a curve that follows the lines of the grille.

    (4) Laying down fiberglass "curve"

    (5) Bondo time
    [IMG]

    (6) Sanding the bondo down to be perfectly flush
    [IMG]

    (7) sanding down the entire cut perimeter to a clean single curve
    [IMG]

    (8) dry fit
    [IMG]

    (9) prep and paint
    [IMG]

    (10) playing with grille sizes
    [IMG]

    (11) playing with mesh (first i bent the top portion at a right angle to hug the upper plastic mold of the grille)

    (12) cutting and molding the bottom of the mesh to fit the 3D curves of the grille
    [IMG]

    (13) securing the top of the grille
    [IMG]

    (14) securing the bottom (i used a metal rod to reinforce tie downs)

    (15) finished grille

    (16) mounted grille

Way to go OP. Thanks for taking the time and risk to pop one of these out. Been wanting to see what a "satoshi" type grill would look like on a 12.

    Nice Job!
    I would rock that if I had a '12...
I think there is room for all manner of styles...and no single one is "better" than the rest. Homer makes awesome grills, and yours is pretty awesome as well!

Your approach is off and the title of your thread could be considered inflamitory. Other than that I don't think you did a bad job.
I intend to go a different direction with the 2012 grill than you did.
    To each his own. ;)

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Ooo, the suspense! can't wait (even though I have an 05, I still want to see).

But overall I agree, not bad looking grill, but OP had a lot of talk to try and back-up. I guess you did succeed in getting our attention.
