Lol was more talking about the car sales “game” from both sides. The second I tell someone I sell cars for a living They brand me as a liar and an arse whole... if only customers knew what it was like from the other side. Lol. I have a genuine desire to help people and sometimes i can give them the world and its not enough. And if I ask someone to pay MSRP people feel insulted lol.

I never had a bad car salesman. I told them what I wanted and at what price, if they couldn’t do it we either found a middle ground or I walked out. It’s the service department I can’t stand. People tend to get bent out of shape when they can’t get their ways.

    Absolutely
The 10+ Southern California dealers that I went to were exactly that
I went 400 miles away to Northern California and saved close to $3500

Jake, why do t you tell us more about the other side. I think there is a reason people associate car salesmen with being liars. Maybe not all are, but in my experience, the majority sure seem to me. I’m sure part of it has to do with the culture that each dealership, or stealership promotes locally. The best car buying experience I ever had was with my wife’s outback. Went in, found the car I liked, test drove it and when it came time to talk price, asked for the Costco price. It was what it was, no lying, no cheating, no haggling. Super easy.

Basic economics. Supply and demand. Now, if you really want to know if a dealer is trustworthy, find out what they are giving for a used PRO...that's where the real robbery takes place.

Where is the part in chapter one that says this is what our product is worth, but you can only get said product through one avenue (dealer) and therefore they can artificially manipulate the appearance of demand (and also the appearance of supply). Is the truck rare, yes. In short supply, yes. Does this justify dealers blatantly taking advantage of the situation for personal gain, no. Hopefully there is a blurb about ethics in that supply and demand chapter.

This is how I swung my Taco for $4k off the MSRP. Toyota hardly gives any discounts over $1000 at the dealers here in Colorado. But Toyota gives stupid discounts to Costco program. Therefore the awesome savings on our recent purchase.

Dealer markups are common place. As disgusting as it is it's just how the market works. Low supply, high demand = high price. At the end of the day the truck is worth what someone will pay for it and the dealership knows that there are people willing to pay well over MSRP.

Yep, call some friendly people in the mid-west. :)
This is a debate that occurs on here quite frequently. You are making an emotional argument. The fair market doesn't care about anyone's feelings...Contrary to popular belief.

Pro's are a limited production "special" edition, so expect to get "special" pricing. You just need to decide how special you are. :)

This just isn't true. You can get that product from thousands of different dealerships that are in direct competition with each other. And the MSRP is a "suggested" price. It's worth whatever someone will pay for it which fluctuates greatly. Perhaps dealerships can manipulate appearance of supply and demand within there city to uneducated people who don't know about the internet but beyond that, no.

Absolutely it does. That's exactly how the free market works. To think a business wouldn't take advantage of a product/situation that they can generate more profit from is ridiculous. If they are overstepping ethics as you seem to think then they wouldn't sell any TRD Pros...but they do, and they aren't. They're just getting what they can for a product they have to offer.

I get it, I really do. I think markups are disgusting as well but I can't hold it against the dealerships. It's really the consumers that pay them that grind my gears. But what can you do. Some people are stupid and some people have cash to burn.

I'm not a fan of charging extra on high demand vehicles. But... you cannot blame any business for trying to get as much $$ as they can for an item. Tires, milk, gas, etc.

Nobody is forcing you to buy a vehicle with a markup on it. But if the dealer can sell them at that price, it means the market is willing to support that price point. If they cannot sell it for that, they'll either keep it or lower their price to something the market will accept.

Yep...and if the price gets too high, the invisible hand will slap their ass back to reality.
