    I just got it!
Warning. What you are about to read is literally the secret to the Tailgate Anti-Theft Mod. It's power is not to be abused.

Bend the excess hose clamp back over the nut, but before doing so, cut the end to a point and sharpen it. So when someone tries to bend it back to unscrew the hose clamp, they get a nasty cut.

    RIIIIGHT?!

    None yet! It's new!
Except the DNA evidence would be gone with the tailgate if he gets it off... unless he leaves a pool of blood on your bumper.

sorry to be a party pooper, but if they have the screwdriver/nut driver to get it off im assuming they would use that to bend it away. at least i would..

you could wrap some electrical tape over the whole thing too so that its just too much effort to cut the tape off and take off the hose clamp

Does anyone know good ways to make things rust? Salt and water maybe? I could just rust the crap out of the hose clamp, and then it's impossible to steal unless you've brought a grinder and some sort of gas powered generator to power the grinder.

I like where you went with the mod. :)

But, I would worry about the payback. You think a criminal won't smash in your fender out of spite? :(

Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm. I don't think I plan on smearing poo on it at all, for obvious reasons haha. And I don't think I'm too concerned about getting my tailgate smashed. Mine is solid chromium.

Remember If they want it they'll get it. How much damage will they do in the mean time.
I've done the hose clamp thing however going much further with it could just Piss them off enough that they screw up your TRUCK

Here’s a scenario in California, scumbag tries to straighten out the bent portion of the clamp and cuts the hell out of him self and gets a nasty infection in which he losses a portion of his finger. Now he sues and you have to sell your truck because he wins the suit.
