I worked at a Euro shop, and during the winter months if we were holding expensive cars, or ones that were getting picked up, and it was predicted to snow that night, we would put cars up on the lifts, check the locks, and that they are stable, and then park vehicles under them , and behind them...

I always made sure of my jacking/ lift points ( I was petrified of ever losing 1 off a lift..) so i always balanced the load.. only 1 I ever questioned was a full sized pickup (2012-ish tundra ext-cab, long bed), it was parked a bit further back than i should have. honestly it was probably 2 feet too far back for a 2 post asymmetrical lift even with the rear arms at full extension and as far back as I could get them on the frame the flex was wicked.. I could hold onto the rear bumper and without much effort rock the entire truck forwards and back.. (I had the truck at maybe 3 feet high before i repositioned it further foreward), far less wobble. In my defense most of the cars/SUV's I had worked on previous were small SUV's wagons, sports cars..etc... and I used the "stop pad" the shop had installed on the floor for small cars.. not realizing how far back i was.. live and learn..

honestly i would push for anything they'll give you.. they damaged your truck.. and no matter how the panels look it'll never be quite right.. and I imagine paint/suspension/rear axle issues later on. At least they were willing to do right by you, they paid for the repairs, and your rental. although i would have imagined they would have hooked you up with a NEWER used loaner truck/SUV of your choice other than a focus... or the time you were without your truck.. good luck..

Holy crap! This is absolutely awful. Can’t figure out why the one mechanic was trying to pull the high side down via the wheel instead of running for his life.

First thing i would do is being it to a shop with a frame machine and see if the frame is bent.

If the frame is not bent, i would settle for compensation, new body panels, hood fenders ect with the factory extended warranty.

I asked an attorney about your situation and he says its a slam dunk type of case - If they don’t give you a fair shake lawyer up.

“I had a case like that. It’s always hard to say what damage was done that you cannot see.

The lawsuit would be a slam dunk.

    Steve”

There are few things I trust less than car dealers. I agree with you. They don’t seem to be telling all.

OP shouldn’t lose anything - He should get fair market value for the truck pre drop and let the dealer do what they want with it or the dealer’s insurance company. I just went through a 3 month nightmare with a shop’s insurance company over a negligence claim.

Jarvie - I'd look into getting an independent overall inspection of the vehicle on their dime.

The sad thing is he looked like a young guy. I think he was just reacting to the fact the million dollar car was about to drop and he felt responsible. His gut reaction was trying to do something about it, which was the wrong choice, and cost him his life.

I hope the shop and the owner of the car had some simpathy and did something for his family.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, first reaction was oh shit I can’t let this truck drop or I’m screwed.

As for the shop taking some responsibility, I’m betting there was either an insurance payout or a lawsuit. Assuming here that it was an equipment failure. Lawsuit could have been against the equipment manufacturer, shop, or both.

    Right, what I said :)
Fair market value is about 10k less than fair market value of a new truck.

Nothing less than a new truck. Called your insurance? Have them tell the dealer its totalled.

    Stuff, things, this, an ADS
It gets that high in pagers because everyone has to say the same thing just worded different. Then there’s a side bar argument so by the time you come back an update it’s 14 pages in between responses. People don’t have the patients to wait for you to come back in and update. So basically it turns into a BS thread with very little information that can help out someone else

I would absolutely love to own an old MG spitfire or original Cooper Mini. I sure wouldn't kick a Caterham or TVR outa my garage either. Tell me a Jaguar E-Type V12 coupe wouldn't give you wood.

I’ve got a few extra bottles of OEM wire harness smoke. You’ll definitely need it for the MG (wasn’t the Spitfire a Triumph?) and maybe a couple bottles for the mini. It’s not easy to get back in once it escapes the wiring, but there’s some YouTube tutorials I’m sure. I don’t know how much smoke you’ll need to top up the other two cars.
