I've got the shutter and shake in my 09 TRD Off Road Auto. 100% stock, 98K miles. I notice it more under light/normal acceleration. I've been searching online for answers and remedies but I'm running out of answers. I know it is a common thing in the Tacos but not all trucks need the same solution. I thought maybe someone on here could help.

The rear leaf springs were replaced about 4 months ago under the recall. A few weeks ago I noticed the shutter occurring at 25 mph which lasts about a second or two, and then I feel it again for the same around 35-40. I think (this is a big THINK) that if the truck is in 4 instead of D that the shutter doesn't occur. I need to confirm that for sure though but take it into consideration.

The truck is at my fathers work (Toyota dealership). His immediate thought was Torque Converter. The tech there pulled the driveshaft to try and help isolate the problem but the shutter can still be felt at the same MPH. Tranny fluid change didn't change anything either.

I'd like to help offer them ideas on where to look. If you have any points that should be inspected, please let me know. Some areas that come to mind. DQ them if you think it can't be any of these:

    1. Torque converter
    2. Rear Engine Insulator
    3. U joint on the front driveshaft?

    Anything you got I'd appreciate

I had something similar.. Changed transmission fluid and spark plugs, and all was well.

Ah yes, they started the trouble shoot with Tranny fluid change but that didn't make a difference. I don't think the plugs would matter in this case as it's specific a mph range. Good reminder though. I should swap them out as I'm at 98K miles now

Not to be antagonistic, but nonetheless:
    • Definition of shutter
    1. 1: one that shuts

    2. 2: a usually movable cover or screen for a window or door

    3. 3: a mechanical device that limits the passage of light; especially : a camera component that allows light to enter by opening and closing an aperture

    • Definition of shudder
    :to tremble convulsively

I find this to be a common mis-definition on automotive sites...
