The skinny is the accelerator pedal! With 2 large kayaks on the roof, I recently achieved 22.1 mpg by simply taking it easy.

The 4G Taco doesn't do any better, but it does depreciate a whole lot faster, so I am a happy camper. :bananadance:

Happy Friday to all. Take care of your taco and it will take care of you!

Happy Friday indeed. Man, I need to see if I can grab some kayaks and roof rack on a Labor Day sale to get my MPGs boosted up.

Will be driving 400 miles south into Baja this morning. It takes about eight hours to get where I’m going and I’ll push that skinny pedal to 90 miles an hour on the sections that safely allow it. My time is worth something after all.

How much is your time worth?

I've been in situations where I was 1000 miles from home. Driving 65 mph might give me 22 mpg and I'd need 45.5 gallons of gas to get home in a little over 15 hours driving time.

Driving 75 mph would reduce fuel mileage to about 19 mpg requiring 52.6 gallons of fuel, but I'd get home in 13 hours driving time. Seven gallons of gas, or about $21 to get home 2 hours sooner. I drove 75.

On a 100 mile commute the difference between 65mph and 75 mph saves you 15-17 minutes. You'll burn about .7 gallons or about $2 more in gas to save 15-17 minutes.

There really isn't a significant savings between 65 and 75 mph. Nor is there a significant difference between smaller trucks like Tacoma and a full size Tundra. 3-4 mpg isn't a big deal. If you're really concerned about fuel savings then you need to move to something that is getting 35 mpg or more.

Around here, I would drive slower on the highway but it's basically impossible with all the semis. A couple mornings I set the cruise to 70 and just watched the traffic jams and road rage build around me haha

That said, I otherwise drive country roads and average over 20 a tank, even with going 80 on the highway

    BREAKING NEWS:

Being a leadfoot is detrimental to gas mileage :p

The best I was ever able to do was about 25-26 across Texas west of Dallas on I-10, probably had the wind pushing me.

I drove the TX-130 once in my 2013 Sport, posted speed limit 85, cruise set at 92 MPH. You could literally see the fuel gauge moving…

I'd rather lose gas, than to lose time....

    Read my mind.

We have a finite amount of time on Earth.....

"F my gas tank" is the "F my liver" of driving :)

Lucky for me I have a 25ish mile drive to work on mostly 30-50mph roads. With traffic as it is it takes about 40 minutes to drive. If I'm in a hurry I may save 5 minutes but gas mileage goes for a shit, like 14mpg and I hit every red light, slowpoke, accident, and construction closure possible. If I'm not in a hurry I get pretty good mileage for these types of roads/speeds/traffic, like 22mpg. I like not being in a hurry, I arrive calm and relaxed, ready to do whatever I want/need. If hurried, I need several minutes to calm down and get my head into whatever I was hurrying to get to. No savings really. Life is short, better to take it easy and take it all in, rather than rushing, stressing and probably driving like an idiot to do something that won't matter soon enough.

To each his own and a lane for them too.
Passing on the left and driving the speed limit on the right.

Arizona is close to passing a Left Lane Camping Law. If you aren't passing someone / driving faster than them, you can get a ticket if you are in the left lane.
Gonna be a lot of fuddly snow birds getting tickets for trying to be the hall monitor on the freeway and I can't wait.
