Just put on 255/80/17 Cooper ST Maxx with 4Runner wheels and no lift. My last set of tires was 255/85/16 ST Maxx on the stock rims. My front mud flaps rub with these fresh tires but as my last got worn down they didn't touch the mud flaps.

There is a little paint worn away on the UCA and the frame where they just barely touch at full lock/compression. Sitting in the driveway there is a gap between the tire and UCA. A lift is in my future but for a daily driver/mall crawler you could run these tires w/ no lift, no problem.

    Howdy!

I asked my friend who has a tire shop if he could find any 255/85R16 p-rated. He was only able to find M/T 10 plys. Do you all know of any good 4-ply tire in this size? The whole point of switching to those was less resistance?

You won’t find any “P” rated tires in the 255/85R16 size. All of the options are going to be “E” rated.

I think there are a couple D rated. Cooper ST (non maxx) but I don't know if they still make them.

34x10.5x17 KO2 are D and measure super small, more like 33x10 so similar.

Is there another option? Similar to these but p-rated? Maybe another type of 33?

Joining the skinny club! 235 85 16s E load on a stock '17 Trd Or. Still playing with tire pressures. Havent had a chance to do the chalk test yet. Anyone have a good psi starting point for this set up?20190916_145732.jpg 20190916_145629.jpg 20190916_145612.jpg 20190916_145556.jpg 20190916_145532.jpg

Man these look really good! I wish I was closer to needing tires on my 2019. I guess I could always sell them.... Have you noticed if your speedo is off now?

I run 40psi on my 265 Duratracs on the road, if that helps.

After running through this post, now I'm jones'n for some 255/80R17 for my next set. Was looking 285/75R17, just because I thought that was the next logical jump, lol.

looking to go with 255/80/17 on my stock TRD Sport Rims, would rubbing be an issue? I have a 2.5 spacer lift currently.

You will be good to go! I run the Toyo's which are 3/4inch larger in diameter on stock wheels with a 2 inch lift and no rub ever, still have mudflats on. if you do get rub it is because your alignment needs adjusting.

Wheels or tires can't be past the fender? I am also not great with this stuff, but I can tell you that I am currently running a 16x7.5 0 offset with 4.5 bs. I have 255/85/16's on it now, and they do not stick out past my fenders. I also don't have flares at this point either. 285's are about an inch wider, so with the additional .75 from the spindle I would think you would be cutting it close.

You might have to work with a 3.5 bs, but that also usually brings it own clearance issues. Hitting the frame at full lock or CMC.

https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wheel-backspacing-and-offset-info.102992/page-50#post-19069752 Maybe find someone in this thread that seems to know more about it and DM them. Good luck

Great info! I've had skinnys on past vehicles & loved them. Really like the 255's on your rig!

I currently have stock OR suspension and running Method 701s with 255/85r16 KM3s. Before the 701s, I had stock OR wheels. No rubbing even when doing some exciting offroad tracks. The 701s are 16x8 with 4.5" backspace (0 offset), so they poke out a bit more than stock. They rub like crazy front and back of fender well when turning while slowing, accelerating, going uphill or downhill. So there's that for those interested (@Fohu ).

Fox 2.5s and icon leafs and ucas go on this weekend then maybe the shop can help me but otherwise not sure what to do. I guess I'll try heat gunning the fender well. Any advice is welcome
