If I order my AAL today, I would probably have everything I need for the lift before the tires got here. Hmmmm, guess I'll just have to order it....

Is there anyone running 235/85/16 that can comment on the mpg difference between that and the stock 265/70/16? I was thinking about going up to 265/75/16 but the skinny tire is growing on me. Thanks.

I only have a couple of weeks on mine, but I haven't noticed any appreciable difference in mpg.

Awesome and thanks! If you don’t mind keeping an eye on it and keeping me posted I’d appreciate it. I’m not buying until maybe late spring.

Great thread with some very useful information.

Looks like I will be looking at 255/85s or 235/85s.

Cool thread! I'm rocking 265/75r16 cooper atps on fj trail teams on my first gen. Plan to go up to 255/85r16 and maybe some spacers (if necessary) when it's time to buy new tires.

Green w/silver looks great! Might go black on the center-cap/rim center hole?

You won't have much sidewall bulge to protect against wheel damage. You will be curbing the rims and bashing it off rocks off-road.

Would those be aluminum rims? As stated....
Not only wheel damage, but having sidewall allows you to grip big flat rocks "moab", traveling sand and snow. The goal of a distributed foot print using side wall when applicable so you can "float". These will.be the first skinny 16s I have run. Having the option of every terrain was a hr away from my home, it was aways 15s. strict trail rigs lean to a 15in rim as well. The smaller side wall 16,17,18s ect were only on pavement princesess, although avalibility has changed with time.

It sucks to blow a side wall, but can be patched in emegency. It sucks more to bend or mar a aluminum rim. That cant be bludgoned back into shape on the trail, or worse be scrap because the rock marred the bead seat.

What is the math to adjust revolutions/distance travelled when going from a 265.65.17 to a 255.80.17? Then I can give an MPG loss estimate. So far just based on long drives and fillups i see some, but it seems like very little. I added 8 lbs per corner by upsizing. As i expected going to an E it is a very slightly harsher ride but by a tiny amount. Some wandering at 55-60 mph too. May just need an alignment as i wasn't easy on the truck in Death Valley. Still need to check the pressure they set at the shop.
The biggest difference is my dog hasn't figured out that the truck is one inch taller so sometimes fails to load up on the first try. He was raised in 3 tacomas, 12 y.o. now. I see a ramp in near future.

Estimates revs per mile for you but man., dia, and wear are not involved. Psi is not a good bible to go by. It should be a momthly routine. The Lbs/inch in Downforce per tire varies each rig and hub. Outside temp affects your tire as well. Chalk across the tire to see the short term wear is a better standard.

More psi =.harder tire and shitty ride less traction but less resistance for speed acc ect. And vise versa

I have seen alot of people "me at one time", air down to 20psi at the trailhead. Then blow a tire up top. Just due to a 15deg temp drop and 2000ft gain in elev.

Yes about the pressure was just referring to the slightly harsher ride. The knucklehead at the shop might have me at 45lbs for all i know. Just haven't had time to check and broke 2 tire pressure pens on my last trip, so I am without. Was just wondering the math to multiply my odometer reading, to check MPG difference .
