Just to stir the pot a little, would you consider a 285/75r17 tire a skinny? They are about 34x11.1

They aren’t as wide as a 285/70 but make up for it by being taller.

In the same brand, they should be exactly the same width. 285 is the tread width in millimeters.

Hell yeah. 235/85r16 Firestone Winterforce LTs on mine.
    Load: E
    Weight: 42lbs.

Wanted to try something taller/skinnier than stock for winter, but I think I'm sold on this size, period. It just looks righteous.

if tiresize.com is to be accurate it shows a difference, granted .4'' isn't really much

The tires SHOULD have exactly the same tread width. I would guess that, in that example, the fact that they were measured using different width rims changes the measured tire width.

    Fixed.

And it's a measurement given a certain rim width.

    See this VV

.4" difference in a 1/2" narrower rim. Check out the measured rim. 8.5 vs 8

Running the Dick Cepek Extreme Country's in 255-85-16. Great tire so far and were far cheaper than anything else.

Is there something you don't like about the Coopers? Why the switch?

Nothing wrong with my coopers. I will run them until they're bad. They do well in everything and did awsome in the snow storm that came.

I like trying different tires, plus they're taller, look more aggressive and the weight between the 2 are similar.

Gotcha. I am thinking of trying the Coopers next, which is why I asked.

Kinda wish I would've seen this before bailing on buying Ray 10s. Any issues with running skinnies in 17x8s? I thought 8" would be too wide. Or at least the borderline of what's possible

I have 16x8 Ray 10s and I experience a little rubbing in reverse with the wheel turned all the way over. I'd imagine someone with 17s has a similar problem. It hasn't been enough for me to do a CMC, but a CMC would definitely fix that problem all together.

Wasn't so much the rubbing I was worried about. If ya gotta chop, ya gotta chop. From what I'd seen previously, 8" was the max limit these tires would fit on. I think most recommend 6.5" to 8." I was concerned that being at the limit might have mounting issues, especially when aired down. I guess it's a silly concern. If it's within the range it should work, right

Oh I gotcha. I have aired them down a bunch and many different surfaces and haven't had any issues.
