Tire shop just called "hello sir, you know the tires you're putting on are WAY smaller than the ones you have, right?"

Currently has 285/70 Duratracs. I was so annoyed. Just put the fucking tires on. Mind you this was 4 hours after I dropped it off. Hope they finish it by end of day as I work all day tomorrow and won't be able to pick it up.

Just on the drive home I can already tell the difference. Drives better/feels lighter. Hard to explain. Gets up to speed and doesn't seem like it's trying as hard. Will be sticking with this size.

Also looks much better than I thought it would. I was worried they would look small but they look great!

Ok brain trust I have a question. Just finished installing 5100 with 2" coil springs up front on 16 Sport. Stock wheels, which I believe are +30 offset with 5.4 backspacing. I'm contacting the uca before I get the tire seated on the studs running 255/80/17 ridge grapplers. Suggestions on spacer size to clear up my oversight? I am planning to swap the ucs later in the summer.

    Edit: ridge not trail

255 is narrower than stocks you should not be near the uca... are you sure you don't have 285's? Nitto doesn't even make a trail grappler in 255/80/17.

Welcome to my wtf moment from last night. Thought I must have trying to put the wheel on wrong or something, reached back over the top of the wheel and yep, hitting the uca. Didn't remotely think it would be a problem.

Anyone running the 255/75R17 SL Cooper AT3 4S? 39 lbs per tire is light. 32" tire. Thinking they might not hurt the gas mileage too bad.

Those are the ones I’m running on my 2nd Gen. I didn’t see a big drop in gas mileage. Maybe 1-1.5mpg drop (when accounting for roll distance/odometer changes).

I finally pulled the trigger and got my St Maxx in 255/85r16 and did the chalk test.
I got 30 psi up front and 28 in the rear. Does this seem really low to anyone? I do carry a fair amount of weight on my truck (skids, sliders, canopy and rear bumper) but I'm still wondering about those numbers....

Seems a little low for this time of year, but honestly it’s personal preference/ weight of your vehicle. I run my 255 Yokohamas at 31psi during the winter/wet months, and 38psi right now through summer/fall.

One thing to keep in mind is taking the psi reading during the warmest part of the day vs the coldest. 38psi is my reading during the afternoon when it’s 80+ degrees out. At night, depending on your location that could drop down to 33psi at night during the summer. If you were measuring 38psi in the morning when it’s 60 degrees, you’d probably end up at 42+ psi by afternoon, which I think is a bit too much pressure.

Got an alignment today. I had replaced inner tie rods and not had it aligned yet. The Duratracs in 285/70 I didn't notice a difference in driving. These 255/80 are much more sensitive. I was all over the road until I got the alignment today. Drives much better.

Tire pressure should be checked when cold, generally in the morning or when the vehicle has been driven less than ~1 km (½ mile).

It’s normal for the pressure to increase as the day warms and after being driven; you don’t want to decrease the pressure based on a hot measurement.

The word “cold” is right there on the placard on your door jamb.

Also posted in the "what did you do to your 3rd Gen today" thread, but thought I'd confirm here that Toyo MT 255/85/16 tires (33.5" OD) on the TRD "Beadlock" rims (16x7.5 10 mm offset) have no issues on a TRD Off-Road with the TRD lift kit (2" front/1" back). OEM mudflaps remain unviolated.

Dealership liked how it looked too; they stored it in the showroom until I picked it up.

No rubbing in some tight-turn parking lots and up and over some curbs. Bush test coming next weekend, but it's all looking good.

That's the previous Toyo M-55s in 235/85/16 on some winter rims in the bed...from past experience, I know the MTs are not great on ice or compact snow. Would like to get the M-55s studded, but they have >10,000 km on them and apparently that's a bit too much wear to allow them to be studded safely.
