Hey all, I've been over hundreds of pages of the thread and couldn't really find a good answer. What would be the best 33in skinnies to run for beach driving?
I do a lot of beach driving on very loose sugar sand, if that means anything to anyone here. It gets sinky very fast if you have the wrong tires. I'm currently running E rated General Grabber atxs 285/75/16. They have been phenomenal, but the one major drawback has been the mpg hit that I took. I'm down to about 16mpg average from 18mpg that I was getting with all my armor and lift prior to then adding tires.
I would love to run pizza cutters but also enjoy not worrying about getting stuck lol. Any thoughts? Thanks in advanced.

 

I don't know if they're the "best" but I have Falken Wildpeak at3w in 255/80-17 on my 23 OR. I have an OSV pass for Assateague MD which I would say is the sugar type sand you mentioned. I air them down to 16 - 17 psi and I've never felt like I was even close to sinking or getting stuck.

 

Nice. The GGs weigh about 55lbs a piece and these are saying 35lbs. That alone is a massive difference. Thanks for the input

 

lol its a typo. they are not 35lbs. closer to 51 lbs.

Will 255/80R17’s fit on the stock TRD Sport rims without a lift? With the width being slightly thinner, is there any rub on the UCAs?

 

Should be fine, but it seems all trucks are a little different. I’m running a similar set up.

edit: I did have to trim some plastic, but it was very minor

 

I had to do some slight trimming and heat gun molding to fit on my TRD Off-Road stock suspension. Eliminated rubbing for me. I'm sure I rub at full lock but I don't typically wheel hard

 

Which one of these 3 do you guys think is best for a truck that's mostly on normal roads and to avoid getting stuck off road? This post definitely convinced me to get some 255s thanks

 

All 3 are great choices. I have experience with all of them. They all perform well on road and off-road, in snow, wet and mud. The wrangler has the most aggressive tread. It’s an all terrain tire. The kumho is an in between for aggressiveness and geolander looks more like an all season tire.

Looking at your pics, the wrangler and geolander are standard load ratings while the kumho is a C-ply. Depending if you tow, how much off-road you do and if you air down, the C load will offer more sidewall protection and can carry a heavier load. The kumho tire weigh is reasonable and it falls right in between the other two

 

Will 235 80 17 fit my 2020 OR without any modification?

 

@khaki2020offroad you will have some plastic impact so you can remove your mud flaps or do a melt mod.

 

Those will clear by a mile.

 

I've been running the Maxxis RAZR ATs for about a year now and there still so quiet on the road. They kinda give me , not sure if 35 x 11.5 x 17 counts as skinnys but they are 5lbs lighter each that the 12.5 wides

 

Ya? Iv seen people say they won't. I have a 2.5 ome lift w 17×7 +4offset rims coming. I might get the 255 80s if that's the case. I figured the 255 75r17s would definitely clear everything though. I might get the 80s now if that's true as Ling as their not much heavier

 

I am one that said 255 80 17 did not clear fully through the travel in my case. I have 0 offset 17 x 8.5. In my case a pinch weld fold was necessary and it just barely kissed the cab mount. I have a welder so I just did a cmc real quick but I do not think it was necessary.

This was all with the coilover removed and fully cycling the suspension and steering.

 

235/80R17 is essentially the same overall diameter as a 265/75R16 but much skinnier. The later tire size fits everyone unless they have insanely negative offset wheels or some funky alignment or something - otherwise it's basically known as the "biggest tire you can fit without rubbing issues".

235/80R17 is over an inch smaller in dia than 255/85R16 or 255/80R17 and many of us are running that tire without rubbing. So like @Maxx said, you'll clear by a mile.

Also, what 17x7 +4 wheels are you getting? I'm assuming they're TRD Pro Sema? If not, I'd be very interested in what they are. I've been looking for skinny 17" wheels and everything is 8.5" wide except for 1 or 2 I've found in 8" wide. (Talking aftermarket wheels here, I'm not interested in any standard OEM alloys.)

 

255/80R17 is over an inch larger in diameter than the 235/80R17 the OP is asking about. Apples to Oranges.
