I just saw the link for this in another thread and read the entire thing as well. I'd love to be able to do something like at some point. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot of off roading to that caliber on the east coast (nor do I have time with work or the money to build my truck for that :/ ). This is always the kind of wheeling and camping I've wanted to do, just don't have the means.

Your pictures are awesome though. Looks like all in all it ended up being a great time.

Well I am glad you discovered it by some means!

It is crazy how much time effort and money I have spent to do this stuff...but it is worth it to me :) hopefully one day you can partake in your own adventure if some sort!

Thanks for reading the story though. It was a fabulous time.

Hey Matt .... Don't sell yourself short ... There may not be as great an Adventure as this on the east coast , butt there is still some very Awesome sights and adventures here in the east .... All you have to do is look ... Practically in your back yard ... I went to the American Adventurest east coast meet in October down in North Carolina ... Cost for the event was $30 for 3 days ..... Had a 10 hr off road class there (included) .... Thought I knew some about off-Roading ... They taught new techniques and expanded on old ones that alone was worth $3000 in good schooling.... Free .... Yes , Free Dutch oven buffet one night .... Free , guided , private land wheeling and on some of the trails that were too much for less modified vehicles the drivers jumped in the passenger seat of other trucks..... I loved having company and an on-board spotter/ picture taker conversation , laughs !
You got Skyline drive , Blue Ridge Parkway , WV back roads and too much more to mention here .... If you can only break away for 1 night ... Just Do It !!
It's all good ... Even the shortys! You will learn your needs and wants and have fun doing it .... I do shorts and all by myself ... I meet great people just doing something different .... Make no more excuses .... Make some plans however simple they may be and see where it takes you ! : )
    You won't regret it

Thanks so much for the story Monte ... It keeps the dream alive !

Haha I gotcha, and I plan to. I just need to get my life in order first  I just got engaged and I'm moving in a month so money's a little tight at the moment. My fiance and I are planning on hitting up Skyline Drive one weekend this Spring though. Her parents live in SW VA as well right off of the Blue Ridge Parkway which we've done a few times too. I love the Blue Ridge and the Appalachians, and they have some awesome views, I just need to find some more dirt.

Man, this is a great story! I'm waiting for my truck to get repaired after getting in an accident. Living vicariously at the moment. Tacoma world should start up a magazine. Great writing and photos though!
