I feel safe where I'm at. Heck, I've left the garage doors up all night.
But yeah it's different now. Too many nutcases out there. But just when I think it's a bad world something, somebody, comes along to change my opinion that there are still good people out there.

I live in a relatively 'safe' neighborhood and have left our garage doors open also - not by choice.

Labor Day weekend...left my truck unlocked (again, forgetfulness) and someone got in there and stole my ipod.

So much for living in a 'safe' neighborhood.:rolleyes:

There really are honest-to-goodness hard working good people out there. But those people are busy...working hard....having fun....and being with their families doing things legally, safely, and responsibly. You don't ever read about those people in the papers - so its almost like they're non-existant.
I'd say that 99% of the people on this forum are good people. We communicate with them everyday and complain about everyone else!!!

    OH, so true!!!!!
And by the way if your even a little older we should not even be alive right now. The things that are so un-safe that we did, like ride in the back of pick ups. Be out alone with NO contact to our folks. Having to WALK more than "to the car". I could go on and on but you get the point.

The young folks now a days are at a disadvantage if things really fail..

To the OP, thanks for the memories.....

    Yuma Taco,
PS: to the members serving our country, THANK YOU.

    You too, huh?? :D

    What are morals?

The school I work for used to have classes for those that didn't finish high school. They were actually learning something and grades were going up, UNTIL they changed the rules so when you got to a certain point, it was time to go on to something else ie a JOB. Once the students were told they had to get a JOB, their grades which had been going UP, ALL started to GO DOWN!!! Why should I work when I can get paid to basically do nothing. :annoyed:

I am just 30 this year but just about all of that rings true for me. My neighbor had a satellite dish that was about 12 feet across and you would turn the dial in the receiver and then watch the dish move.

    Aahhh the good ole days

im only 26 and i remember actually having a bed time...9 pm till i was like 15...lol...

we lived in a shitty old 1974 model trailer on 40 acres. Something was always breaking in that damn thing. We built 2 rooms onto it for extra bedrooms and I acutally had to help my dad out with that...Every winter, pipes would freeze and bust and i had to crawl under the house and help fix them. Every summer, firewood for us and my grandmaw. I had to help. Cars would break down it seemed like every other week. I had to help fix them.
I would go to school and hear my friends talking about playing nintendo and going to the pool and the skating rink (big deal when i was a kid). And i would look down and there would be grease under my fingernails and dirt on my jeans and mud on my shoes. lol I hated having to work my whole childhood, but now i thank my parents for it. I would have to hire somebody to fix everything now if I hadnt learned it when i was a kid.

Right now I live near 4 other families. It seems like once a week I see a plumber truck or a electrician, or some kind of repair man truck in the driveway of one of their houses. They are all under 25 and have no idea how to glue PVC together or twist on a wire nut. Kinda sad really. But hey, they have nice clothes.

I have yet to see anyone under the age of 30 that was not Mexican pushing a lawnmower. I am being absolutely serious. I doubt they would know how to start it, let alone what a lawnmower was for.

    Is it just me :notsure:....
Seems like the high school kids can't spell or write very well.

My little sister just graduated and I have a hard time figuring out what she is saying when I read emails and things from her. Also on all of the forums I'm on the young crowd has terrible grammar/spelling.

I think all this technology has made them stupid :typing:, do they even know how to use a dictionary. When I asked my mom if I'd spelled something wrong, she wouldn't tell me, she would make me look it up, we didn't have 'spell check' on type writers.

ok i wanna know what skills you think you posses that i dont because of the age difference, because your still playing video games (lazy) regardless of how advanced they are, you talk about having to get up to change the channel how far away is your tv from the couch 5-6 feet make sure you stretch before you make that long walk and you only have 3 channels anyways so whats the big deal oh and still watching tv anyways (lazy), in my opinion even though i do niether stealing music from napster is better than shoplifting from a store, your still listening to music in your car regardless if its cd or tape, and no cartoons on the weekdays you should've been in school, doing chores, or homework not watching cartoons, i couldnt really think of anything for the internet but fuck it i think its great that my parents dont have to 3 weeks to get a letter from me in iraq so that they know im still breathing so just let me know the skills you have that i dont because of the 10 years

    THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!
If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking Twenty-five miles to school every morning....
Uphill..... barefoot...BOTH ways Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that.... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter - with a pen!

Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take, like, a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!

Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! Nowhere was safe!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished and the tape would come undone. Cause - that's how we rolled, dig?

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either!
When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! Wehad the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen... forever!
And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel! NO REMOTES!!!

There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait

ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little
    rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove! Imagine that!

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980

    or before!

    Regards,

    The Over 30 Crowd

As a child of the Eighties, I can heartily concur.....

Hell, we didn't have fancy paintball guns to go play with. We had BB guns..... before they were toned down, made politically correct, and outlawed. 10 pumps and a pellet fired at 720 fps at your ass leaves one hell of a welt kids. :)
