yeah I’m just trying to go the cheapest route and not remove the steering wheel

 

So I did a button the first time around, then did the steering wheel off method. Unless you want to run your fogs completely independently just buy the stalk and take the steering wheel off. You'll probably be happier with it in the long run. Taking off the steering wheel is less frustrating than running wires through the firewall in my opinion.

 

Yeah I agree it would turn out oem. I just think I’ll jump in the truck and always want to turn them on anyway. That’s why I thought of tapping the headlight wire somehow and running from there, but a lot of people say the wire could burn and void warranty because more power is being run than supposed to. I also seen a YouTube video where he runs them on headlights but don’t know if has had any issues. I guess it just seems like a bigger project than I want to tackle if I can get away with easier set up.

 

steering wheel/airbag isn’t as big a deal as I thought it would be. Plus you get to confuse the service techs when you bring in truck a with OEM fog lights, but the model info says SR.

Tip #1: Use a piece of masking tape on the wheel and dash to align them when you put it back on.
Tip #2: Make sure you have a deep socket to get to the nut so you don’t have to put it all back together to drive to the store, get a new socket set and start over.

My guess is that you could use the low beam signal wire to trigger a relay.... I think that’d be fine....

 

@Kenstogie is right. If you want to go this route you can pull power from battery to relay, then power fogs from relay. For taping the low beam for the 'on' signal, buy or make one of these and tap into that so you don't touch the factory harness.

I already have oem fogs and bezel I’ll look into maybe I’ll take your advice and bite the bullet. I do like the fog light switch on stalk vs button! Thanks everyone who pitched in

also what’s thoughts on a add a fuse for fogs? Is it similar issue?

 

Bingo,use a relay harness and the headlight wire will be just a trigger.The power would come from the battery.Use a lockit posi-tap on trigger wire to headlight wire.Posi-taps work pretty well.

 

You can use a fuse tap if you want but it would be easier to pull from the battery direct in this case.

 

if I do the fuse tap to fuse box, do I still need a relay or can I just wire directly?

 

Even easier: You can just put a jumper wire in your new light stalk and bridge the fog light and low beam pins.

Depending on how many relays/devices ....You could do this route also which can be a neater set up... and in electronics/electricity neatness counts.

when I am done with any exposed connections I brush/spray on some ncp2 (corrosion protection grease, the orange stuff) see below...works great but it’s to seal out the elements and prevent corrosion and such not for use on the actual electrical connection...

 

I replaced my dash & doors with Kickers, and then added an Audio Control amp & JL sub in the back. It makes me happy.

 

Yea I have the kickers In the dash they are decent higher mid range and lots of treble (needed some eq to reign it in) but sounds good now.... along with decent stereo separation. It took me a little bit to get used to having treble again after the $h!tty stock dash speakers
