Same.. 20 year old truck before this. Now I'm regretting getting a new one.. that truck was never hit. I have been careful for 2.5 years. Park in 'smart' places ... drive like an old man .. problem is theres always a dope on the road. It's only a matter of time before you get in his way.. basically every 5 or so years

I can totally relate. Prior vehicle was a 2003, 3 year old lease return Pathfinder. It looked awesome and was in great shape when we bought it. Up till then the most modern vehicle we had. Power windows, auto, air. Etc. Wife and kids were hard on it. I gave up. Just did basic washes and interior cleaning. However I did stay right up on maintenance for the 15 years we owned it. So I didn’t care if it was hit or scratched up. Was quite liberating. Unlike having a brand new Toyota Truck again that is mint. Looking back I wanted a used Tacoma but they were all so fucking expensive with miles on them. Didn’t make sense to by used. Wife and I both love this truck. Sucks in some ways. Silly, to feel that way all over a inanimate object.

Shiiiiit! So sorry man. Weren’t you just saying something about that in another thread? Was this before or after?

Guess the silver lining is, his insurance buys you new aftermarket bumpers…or the frame is bent, truck is totaled…then you get another new truck.

Do you ever stop by the parking garage to to see if the truck is sleeping soundly? My wife and daughters make fun of me a lot…

Well. Now that I had some time to think it over and live with it a couple days it really isn't that bad. I'm hoping for this...

I get 3 high estimates somewhere in the $4000 range and just fix it good enough myself.

This should be about close being as I have rear bumper and tailgate damage. Front bumper only really had some plastic pushed out of place nothing seems to be busted.

The only part that seems to be really bent is the bumper cover support which is cheap even for OEM.... I could probably get away with just replacing that, remounting my $41 draw tite receiver and all the other OEM stuff. My plastic step cover is scraped and marred in a few spots, but I'm not overly concerned about that. I'd have to buy a tailgate and a drivers side bumper cover from oempaintedparts. I figure I'll be in for about $1400 or so. $2600 in my pocket ain't bad for a few scrapes on the plastic step bumper... this is wishful thinking. I'll have to wait and see what the quotes are.. all in all to have it all replaced brand new would be very expensive.. to fix it "good enough" with OEM parts will be much cheaper. If I do all the work myself. .. I save on labor.... and just pocket the profit.

That $41 drawtite receiver actually saved my truck from a shitload of damage... that thing took the brunt of the crash and just obliterated the front of the honda suv that hit me. His car will likely be totaled..

I had the same mindset. Why buy used for 24k... when new cost 28k... it just wasn't feasible. I already knew I was in an SR anyway.. less crap.. less money... basic

Yeah I tend to freak out over things at first, then it fades as time goes on. Got my first windshield chip the other day, saw the rocking flying off the semi in front of me then ricochet off the glass….fuuuuuuuck! Week later…there are so many bug splatters on it can’t even find the chip.

Hope it all works out….dunno, frame looks seriously bent and irreparable from here. :p :D

There are lots of us here with that same sickness. Whether we'll admit to it or not is a different story. Wife & I absolutely suffer from it.

I would have been happy with a SR or SR5. However being most likely my last truck and a early retirement gift to myself I splurged and went with the TRD Sport. However I love all gens and trims of Toyota trucks tho. In Canada the entry level Tacoma is now $40,350 however 4X4 is standard equipment. My TRD Sport was $43,750 in the fall of 2020. No regrets. Love the extras.

Just another day of flat landing, have not been anywhere since 2020. My Tacoma might need another home, but it’s such a great obstacle obliterator (Houston traffic) and river crosser (Houston rain days).

I drove ours about 2000 miles from TX to GA and back last week, swinging up through NC (Smokies/Blue Ridge Pkwy) on the way back. Hit Tail of the Dragon on the way out, lol. After putting Firestone Destination X/Ts on it (245/75-16E) it has SO MUCH more grip in the corners compared to the stock Firestone LE2s that immediately rolled over and howled and tripped all over themselves.

I got 21-23 MPG doing 70 MPH on the interstate on the way out — not bad. On the way back I did about 300 miles at 65 MPH and averaged 25.1 MPG for that stretch. Traffic is still crazy in the cities with people doing 90 and whipping around all crazily, but trucks and long-distance drivers seem to be doing about 10 MPH slower on the interstates, like maxing out at 75 instead of 85-90, so it was much less nerve-wracking hanging back than if I'd tried to go this slow in the past (semis would get all bunched up and annoyed) so I would just go 75 or 80 and get 20 MPG max.

Downsides: a little noisier, firmer ride at low speeds, it can no longer spin the inside tire and kick the rear around if I floor it when doing a U-turn and hard braking is a little less confidence inspiring/feels a little squirmy.

    lol.jpg
There is a photographer who takes pictures of all cars that hit this road and you can order images for $8 (super funny, note my wife's hand on the OS handle)

Shit happens. It happens to me often...

We'll see what my buddy says tomorrow. He thinks the frame is bent. He said the hitch receiver definitely took the brunt of the accident. I'm hoping nothing major is bent and I can just slap a new bumper on and get the tailgate repaired/replaced. With any luck I'll make some loot....
That said, he told me insurance companies here in Jersey have been doing this BS where they make a 3rd party claim go to their certified repair center (the places that use BS aftermarket parts) to save money. So I'm just going to have to see how I can go about getting a high 3rd party claim settlement and maybe just fixing it myself.

Just signed purchase agreement(for msrp) and put $2k down on this incoming SR. It's due to be built next week. Delivery approximately later July. So pumped! Now I can park my '22 Ram 2500 crew with the Cummins. It's a beast of a truck and need it to pull my boat, but no so much for a daily driver.

Hope you have better luck than me. I’m about 4 months into waiting for my SR…was supposed to take a month. Keeps being put on hold by Toyota.
