Can I see some headlight swaps?


My SR finally came in, picking it up next week. The SR looks so …white? I guess?? Idk what it is about the front end, it just looks soft to me compared to other tacomas. I think it’s the headlights. Would love to see some of your headlight swaps and what you went with/what was involved. Thanks!

 

My son had @novtec4me (a member here) do his.... I want to do mine so bad..... but I dont want to spend $$$$. He had a BHLM, projector retrofit for the hi beam, and a tinted amber side marker.... I dont have pics but they turned out nice.... eventually I'll have this guy do mine. He lives 40 mins from me, so I can drop em off.

The guy does nice work for sure and you get to keep your factory lights. It's been something I've wanted from day1, but just never wanted to spend money on it. I'll have him get some pics today... after he got them back I was like damn.... it's worth the $$$$

 

Finally finished my seat heater install, just in time for summer! Went through 2 winters will all the parts and just couldn’t find time to do it since I don’t have a garage, but this winter my bum will be nice and toasty.


Swapped in a fast dual USB charger for the cig lighter too while I had the dash pulled apart.

The seat upholstery is by far the worst part. Not sure I’d do it again by choice, but for about $200 in parts, I won’t be cold on winter mornings.

 

Hey, I am @2k2 ‘s son, I’m gonna attach some pics of the work he did. They came out great, so far they’ve been installed for a little over six months. I had him paint the inside satin black, and he also swapped in some LED high beams. The price he charged for the work he did was phenomenal and I would certainly recommend him. One concern I had was moisture getting inside the light and it fogging which has not happened at all so the work is definitely of good quality.

I will have mine 4 years this October and other than replacing the battery last winter I have had no issues. Mine is a asphalt queen and the only dust she sees is blowing in the wind from the corn, bean, and wheat fields.

 

What type of hood deflector is that? I like the look of it.

 

Aeroskin ll. Although the picture on Amazon does not look like the one for our Tacoma's, it is. I bought mine on Amazon. Cheaper than Real Truck. I just saw on Real Truck they have them now with amber lights in them. Wow!

I'm looking these for my rig.... but got confused with Amazon's "confirmed fit" banner saying the fog lights wont fit but every thing in the description looks like it will fit
my rig is a 22 Tacoma SR utility package that did not have fog lights

 

Yeah Amazon's confirmed fit feature is pretty hit or miss from what I've seen. The only fit issue with these that I experienced is the same thing that other reviewers said, the plastic shrouds don't exactly fit in a confidence inspiring way. I've just assumed this whole time that one day they'll fall out, but they haven't in a little over a year now. If I had to do it again though I'd just get a set of OEM LEDs and plastic shrouds and whatever harness/materials required to make that work. I see the OEM LED take offs for sale pretty cheap from time to time. I've still got mine installed from this kit but will definitely upgrade at some point.

 

Just picked up my 2022 SR. Is this stalk the one everyone upgrades to for fogs? Does having this mean I can plug/play fog lights and then get some aftermarket LED headlights?

The OEM setup is pretty good, and, well..... its OEM. No muss.. no fuss.

There are several OEM bezels to pick from... the offroad ones are like $8. Get the factory harness, stalk. Troll around the B/S/T forum for a set of gently used take off light units and you can get a factory setup for around $200.

 

Looks like my sons stalk he wound up buying and putting on ... mine looks completely different, although I may have gotten the corolla stalk..

Either way... they look different, but both work.. I'd assume you'll be ok just adding the lights and operating them via the stalk you have. Maybe the new ones have the stalk along with all the necessary prewiring.

 

Drl... that's another story... the Amber turn signals are my DRL on my 2020 SR. I'd assume that's how the 22 is setup as well.

 

Getting ready to do the front and rear diffs.. I'll leave the xfer case liquid gold alone until 60K. Eventhough I was clipped on the rear I still may give it a nice bath and wax job.... we'll see how the fluid swap goes.

Anyone use this stuff?

 

I have not, but I am putting a fluid change materials list together and thinking of going with Red Line.

 

Just did the swap today. Aside from not having a 10mm hex key for the front it was painless. I had to go out and buy one for $7 annoying). The stuff smells horrible. At 32k miles now and the magnetic drain plugs were caked with metallic sludge. The rear fluid was black and dirty. The front was grayish and not that terrible. I left the transfer case alone... the dealership wanted $900 for a 30k service... really?

The rear of my SR took around 3.5 quarts or so (I may have spilled a bit transferring from the 5qt container over to the 1qt), front took about 2 quarts. I have about 2/3 quart left out of 6.

Quick spin.. nothing feels different.. well see how my drive into work tomorrow goes. I'll put it in 4wd later on today and drive for a few miles

 

Just sharing my 22 SR 2wd 2.7. Mpg went down but the truck looks cool. lol I hope I’m doing this right.
