I bought mine just for the fender flares and blackout package. Having it come with exhaust tip, floor mats, bed mat, and wheels was a bonus

This was mod 1 in my build thread....
If I keep my truck 10 years and gas prices keep going up, the removal of the air dam will wind up being the most expensive modification I make.

The air dam is ugly yes
The air dam could interfere with offroad approach angles yes
The air dam could cause some rubbing issues with different offset wheels and larger tires yes

However its sole purpose is aerodynamics. It honestly saves you an average of 1mpg.

I didn't keep mine long, but for the first 2 tanks of gas I averaged 24.5mpg. I took the air dam off and was getting 23 mpg.

Let's say I drive my truck for 250,000 (which is more than likely). And I average 21 mpg (which is where I have been for about 2 years). That means for 250,000 miles I used approximately 11,905 gallons of gas.

Now, for arguments sake, let's say I kept that disgusting looking air dam on. I drove the same 250,000 miles and now I average 22 mpg. That means I used approximately 11,363 gallons of gas.

Gas around here is $3.75 per gallon currently and it's been as high as $5. At the current price, the extra 540 gallons I used by deleting the hideous air dam cost me over $2000 through out the life of the truck (although I hope to go more than 250k). As my truck sits.... the air dam removal will cost me the most money of any mod I did over the life of my truck.

Same stance can be taken for bigger tires, large negative offset, wheels... my setup is lightweight as far as trucks are concerned and it still cost me about 2mpg.

Just saying.. that air dam does serve a purpose

My son got the SX package.... I think he paid an extra $900. It came with nice alloy wheels and flares...... it was a no brainer really....best package available for the Tacoma.

He sold the wheels for $500.... so theres that. The oem flares alone are like $200 each

Not a great deal here. Extra 4k defeats the purpose of buying an SR to begin with

Yes the SX package was dropped from the SR and added to thr SR5. Which is a nice addition to the SR5. I was disappointed to see it discontinued on the SR. I like the SR interior over the SR5. The all black grille and color coded bumper on the SR with the SX package.

The SR with SX package was exclusive to access cabs. SR5 SX is available in AC and DCSB.

The negative is a SX is now closer to 40k than 30k.

Toyota does sell a V6 AC SR which is a nice truck, buy Toyota should have still offered the SX pkg on that model.

Toyota isn't going to have trouble selling trucks, but they certainly are chasing customers away.

I bought my regular cab 10 years ago, and I would have rather had the option of getting a SR5 version with the painted bumpers and over fenders, and I'm sure it was more expensive than the model year the SR5 was available.

My 2011 SR5 DCSB 4x4 automatic. All stock except for the wheels and a bed cover and the side bars, front bar and lights. I bought the truck used in 2017, had 60K on it then, has 120K on it now. The bars were on it when I got it, I added the lights , bed cover and wheels, with are 17x8.5 and -2 offset.DSC01760.jpg

Wow. My buddy has a 20 SR5 and he has painted flares on his standard. Not sure what the SX package adds to the SR5 aside from those black wheels...

Toyota saw how popular the SX package was and cashed in... what ashame they dont offer it on base models anymore....

Oh well.. I'm glad my son and I got ours when we did... looks like now they are charging a premium for nothing.

I have a couple in my garage... I sometimes think about modifying it to not rub my tires and put it back on to potentially get that +1mpg back..... but it's just so damn ugly. It ruins the front and side profile of the truck.

You can get the plus 1mpg with a lighter tire. I have a skid plate, so it is not even an option

Not gonna get much lighter than 43lbs for my 265/75/16 SL Wildpeaks (at least not for an aggressive looking AT). I'm not running E load and my wheel/tire combo was chosen to be weight conscious. The new Hankook Dynapro AT2 look to be pretty good at 39lb.

I have the 265/75R16 Hankook Dynapro ATMs with SCS F5s. Total set up should be about 57 lbs each corner. I thought it was a good total package setup.

Yep... pretty light.. especially for a large AT tire.

I'm about 61 lbs each corner. 4lbs is a lot of rotational weight to shed. I have always tried different AT tires and so far these AT3Ws are the best I've ever had, but I'm certainly going to give the Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtremes a shot next time I need tires
