I loves my Tacoma and will never sell it however the Ridgeline has a far superior traction system. Hell, my sexy Prius with the proper tires does better on packed snow & ice than my Tacoma! Only 50% or so of what I use my Tacoma for would be better served by the Ridgeline

 

Ridgeline is an excellent minivan with a truck bed... it definitely can not be overloaded and go up a mountain like a Tacoma.

i wouldn't beat up on a Ridgeline. it's literally a minivan (a great one at that).

they're apples and oranges.

you would have a hard time modifing the suspension to handle a load with the Ridgeline.

 

of course a front wheel drive train is much better than rear wheel drive in the snow. this isn't even a comparison

I do. Got 15 inches of snow 2 days ago. When in 4wd, the tacoma will do just fine and an awd will have a slight advantage on icy roads but the minute the snow gets deeper, the taco will have the advantage.

 

The snow is only 'deep' around these parts for a 1/2 day or so, then the plows do thier thing. The Ridgliine would be far superior on packed snow & ice, like a Subaru.

 

I disagree with your statement about far superior. I have driven both in such conditions and I disagree on far superior comment. But what is far superior is the tacoma on the side roads that arent plowed and have a lot of snow. Blows away the awd.

 

1st Gen tundra with the V8 was the tits.

 

My Prius with studdless snow tires is FAR superior on packed snow & ice. Unplowed snow is not really a thing 'round here however AWD is way better than 4x4

 

I told myself that if I ever needed a commuter and weekend chores vehicle, it would be the passport. It’s definitely Honda exciting (blah….) but would be incredibly functional.

Makes sense, with a good set of tires. On ROADS awd should be better. but I don't agree with your far superior comment if both vehicles are using the same winter tires. And I own and have owned many awd's. Off road, the 4wd is far superior in every way. So there is a give and take. If you don't off road at all, then you may be better served with awd. If you off road, 4wd is the FAR superior choice. Really, the only choice.
