The Tacoma's rear view camera image looks like...

Why does the Tacoma's rear view back up camera look so bad? I own a 2020 and rode in a Chevy and a Honda recently. Those back up cameras look really clear and nice.

Is there an after market camera that can be installed? It's plain embarrassing when a Honda Civic has better camera views then a brand new $50,000 truck.

I don’t think it’s that terrible . Only at night and when it rains . Should be plenty of aftermarket ones if you are not happy with it . I had a Honda Accord before it was clearer but the camera was useless for parking showed I had plenty of room and ended up damaging my rim hitting a curb backing up .Toyota one works great .

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
    Embarrassing?

So long as I can tell I'm not backing up over someone or backing into a car, I don't care how great the picture is.

Do you really spend enough time in reverse that it's a big deal? You need 4K HD to get out of your driveway?

It is truly bad. It may be screen resolution

That cam in the 50K truck is the same in the SR 25K truck.

The offroad and pro have 360 cameras that have worse resolution for the back up camera. All Toyotas suffer from this. The SR backup image is better than the Pro because of this

I'm not ashamed to admit that every time I drive through chic-fil-a, I turn on the 360 camera, and use it to see how far my wheels are from the curvy curb
I definitely would have inflicted some nasty curb rashes on my wheels or tire sidewall if I didn't have it in the Tacoma

also, some of the drive-thru lanes are so tight, I highly doubt a double cab long bed can even fit

Your 50k Tacoma isn’t really a 50k truck. It costs much less to build. Pair that with a design that’s based off a design that started almost 20 years ago and well Toyota’s profit margins are probably pretty damn good. Why do you think they are forking over big money for replacement frames on older vehicles as a campaign, not a recall.

That goes for all vehicles obviously. Compared to a full sized let’s say F150, the Ford will have more money invested in design, and materials but their production costs are probably lower as they produce a lot more and faster.
