No more than calling a BMW a Bimmer, a Chevrolet a Chevy, a Cadillac a Caddy, or a GMC a Jimmy.

As an aside, the New Mexico Air National Guard was derisively called the Tacos when they first went to Nam, but after flying under conditions that would keep other outfits on the ground and kicking some serious VC ass in the process, they came home with "Tacos" being more an expression of admiration. I have no trouble with a Tacoma being called a Taco, but I'm not sure a mere truck warrants being included in such company.

The deprecating term TuRD. Always have, always will. It's just plain funny.

I don't call it a Taco. It reminds me of the super "cool" people who call Target stores, "Tar-jay" or however they call it.

Where does the term "Taco" come from? Actually, I'm glad you asked...
This term originated back in the early 1800's by the tribe know as the hung2lo tribe. They were a friendly bunch, but had a deep dark secret... They were cannibals! Over the years, they had acquired a taste for the tourists that came through the area to photograph the local wildlife including the women of the tribe (they ran around naked). Anyway, the tourists generally drove Toyota's in the bush country back then. The men of the tribe over the years had found a way to split the "shell" of the Toyota to extract their prey...and the term "Taco" was born. To this day, they still roam the countryside in search of the elusive "Taco".

    'Taco..' sure beats '..coma'

I always intended to peel a few letters off the rear badge of my 2000 Prerunner and leave

    Taco__
    ___runner

That truck went to ru$t heaven before I got around to it, but that's what we always called it. Then on my first visit to this forum to get info about options for my 2010, I saw someone refer to their 2wd basic as a 'Taquito'; I mentioned this to my wife and that nickname immediately became attached to the new truck.
