The Toyota dealer parts dept told me that the front diff, rear diff, manual transmission, and transfer case all take 75-90 gear oil. is this correct?? sounds strange to me.

If you're referring to the first generation trucks 95.5-04...

    YES, that is correct.
I had a 96 and used all the same oils for everything.

Do you have an owners manual? You can look it up and verify that information yourself.

Sorry.....You came to the right place to ask!

And believe it or not, a lot of people have owners manuals and they still don't look in them for those types of answers.

yeah...I work on cars for a living..I know that fact all too well. People bring their cars in for "complaints" about things that are clearly explained in the owner's manual. It costs me money every day.

I just changed all the fluids in my 02 and recently did a lot of reading on this subject. What I came away with was....

    Diff's use a GL5 75w-90 fluid ( I used Redline 75w-90ns)(I have a locker, not a limited slip)

    transfer case and manual trans use a GL4 75w-90 fluid. ( I used Redline MT90...(its a 75-90wt))

I'm not an expert, but this is what I used.

The red line fluids are great and some of the best around for manual trannies...

The MT90 is used alot for quicker, smoother shifts...
    Good call...
