aftermarket "CAI" systems draw air from the same location as the stock system (excluding the URD CAI), so how can the air be cooler and more dense?

I understand that the air comes from the same location and so both stock and the TRD accessory are "cold air". But the claim is not "your truck was not cold air before, but it is now". The claim is "more horsepower and torque". Doesn't there have to be some kind of fact behind that...?

Just asking. I understand that we are all hobbyists here, and "I want one" is a good enough reason. "It's better" is probably not.

A lot of claims being made here, but very little (if any) scientific documentation on either side about whether CAI's increase power.

Many people here say that CAI's do nothing but make noise. Where is the proof? Okay, so someone dyno tested a K&N filter on a 3.4 motor. Does anyone have any dyno test results with the URD, TRD, or AFE CAI's on the 4.0L engine? Many people that have these intakes may not have felt a difference, so they're inclined to say they didn't do anything for power. But you're not going to be able to perceive a 5-7 hp increase in the seat of the pants. So how would you know one way or another? You may argue that 5 hp isn't worth the $400 if you can't even feel it, which is a different argument entirely (and a very valid one). But without any documentation or proof, I don't understand why a person can be so sure that there is no power increase.

The OP wanted some cold hard facts about whether CAI's work and only one person even bothered to provide them. How disappointing.

I hope a truck with stock tires is faster than mine. And also I still have a faster time than those that were stated. I run a 15.5 in the 1/4 last time I went

The 'ol CAI debate. My take is that many companies claim HP and/or torque increases but I doubt they dyno every single application/model they have. That would be a lot of vehicles to test. Although, since they're obviously fitting these on the actual car, they could easily dyno it after installing. I don't know..

Here's a link with writeups on the Airaid and Afe intake systems. They claim to have dyno'd them but do not show the actual result sheets.
    http://www.customtacos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60797

Edit: Airaid does in fact have dyno sheets displayed on their website but not for our Tacos. I called Airaid directly and the person I spoke with said he'll try to get one up and offered to email me when its up. He also said they're working on a new box which may or may not include a new intake tube. He said their current kits do not include intake tubes because they didn't get any performance increase vs. the factory tube. They seem like an honest company vs. another company I spoke with that said, "I don't have access to those [dyno sheets], but it does increase your power."

Why are you taking your off road truck to the drag strip so much anyway?

Maybe the next time, you should take pictures of your comparison timeslip(s)

Oh, and you *ran a 15.5
