Except I don’t like it. But I do like the hood and grill on my Sport.

Fair enough. I think the majority of Tacoma owners would agree on the pro grill though

Are visually appealing mods useless? Then my red TRD center caps stickers are useless, but are one of my favorite mods and cheap.

Glad you are here to tell us all what we ‘need’ on our trucks. I live in the desert and go out all the time at night. In the summer it’s too hot to go shooting during the day (gets up to mid 120s). Also I hunt jackrabbits and coyotes at night. I had LED headlights, and a front bumper light, and still wanted more luminosity so I can see everything in front of me at high speeds - also helps immensely in seeing the jackrabbits hiding in the brush. Added a Rigid grill light combo and it’s perfect. The back lights help out when it’s pitch black and seeing what you are backing up into, as there are steep drop offs where I go in the mountains.

Uhh the hood struts seem pretty useless to me unless you’re elderly or have a shoulder injury

I’m in that bucket too. There’s no issue with lifting the hood and placing the support, but it’s just a lot easier with the struts and the working space is much easier without the central support. Oh, and at 6’4”, the extra 3-4” of lift is nice.

It’s just another of those ‘nice to have but not necessary’ mods.

Let me also add two phone holders, a steering wheel cover, XD wheels, ebay flares, camo overlays, and the last but not least a pedal commander for your automatic.

How much wrenching does a 3.5 Camry engine need anyways? There's nothing more soul crushing when your neighbor walks over as you're admiring the 303 protectant shine on the engine cover, just at that moment he quips my wife has the same engine in her Highlander.

There's no reason for a Tacoma to have it's hood up for show and tell, it's the same reason that people should leave a hood on their hotrod Ford if it has a SBC.

The term "Mod" has been way overused, putting on stickers or a new grill does not (for me) count as mods, just the same as putting together an Ikea desk doesn't make you a furniture builder. Used to be, Mods meant cutting, burning metal, grinding metal & the like. All the "Mod" threads I click on, are a let down, I was hoping to see some cool new modification, but nope, skippy put on a new dash bezel. How about a "New accessory" page for the bling stuff.

That's not just useful for breakdowns though. It's handy if you're doing anything in the engine bay, even just maintenance or modding.

added extra tie downs in bed, the tool-less 32oz cupholder mod, fog lights in process...
Sounds like the hogs here in TX... we do a lot of hunting at night driving though fields which is why I've been thinking about adding those ditch lights.

I think it's important to realize a couple of things here. 1. A mod just for looks isn't always useless, if it makes you like your truck more. 2. No accounting for taste, no one should take any of this personally.

The only kind of mod useless to me is one that doesn't change the looks and doesn't serve a functional purpose. Not a lot of mods fit into that category, but I'd put "cold" air intake in there. The first justifications I saw was that the air was actually colder, which was disproved, I think, by someone on this very forum. Now I see all kinds of justifications about the airflow being better and a more specialized kind of filter, and I'm just really not convinced it makes any difference at all.

I’ve been debating for 2+ years on a clear engine cover for my cayman. It’s pure aesthetics of course... or perhaps a little aural enhancement as the acoustics are changed a little and you can hear the valve train and other odd bits making their rounds. But let’s face it, Porsche makes a wonderfully performing boxer engine, but they ain’t much to look at. :)

I’ll admit that in one of my COVID lockdown boredom fits I bought a pair of Rago bed box stiffeners off the BST locally. Not by the tailgate, but up by the cab. They look great, and occasionally I set things on them as I’m getting stuff in and out of the truck. Or my coffee. Not the intended purpose, but meh, not displeased with them enough to sell them.

They probably qualify under the post title.

Funny you should say this. I installed the Hood Struts and felt it was one of the best mods. I am not elderly (at least not yet), but i have a AGM battery and hardly drive my truck. When I know its going to sit for a long period of time, i connect my NOCO battery charger on it so I am constantly opening my hood at least once a week, depending on how much i drive it. I recently had shoulder surgery and there is no way i would be able to open the hood without the struts. Now I am glad I installed them. But to each his own. I have power folding mirrors and I feel it was worth the cost, most would think it is useless.
