Is asking the fathers permission to date outdated?
Even if you think it's outdated would you still do it?

 

very outdated. wouldn't do. girl and father will think your weird.

 

Marriage, yes. Dating, no unless shes underage? idk if that's even ok if you do ask lol

My son is 14, he asked me if it was ok if he had a girlfriend, he then asked the parents of the girl. I though it was cute.
I would think it would depend on how traditional the father is.

 

I guess I did forget to ask how old the asker and askee was.

 

That's awesome that he asked being as he is so young.

Parents are pretty traditional, Father doesn't seem to have that much interest in us, but the Mom does.
I think it helps that I've known their family and been pretty close with the parents since I was born, they know I respect them and they respect me.

I'm almost 21, she's almost 20. She's not dependent on them for anything AFAIK and she has her own apartment, but I think it would be respectful to ask the parents anyway.

 

if theyre the traditional type, I don't think it would hurt anything. it just seems rare to ask permission to date I guess.

 

"Can I Try to F#%@ Your Daughter?" is basically how I would read the situation.

 

If you've known her all your life there's no need. They prob. assumed all along ya'll would experiment with each other.
Most situations I'd agree, seems weird, but some dads are weird...so there's that.


edit: And I don't mean experiment like that, just that you would eventually give each other a shot.

Last time I was at their house (they live 1,000 miles away from where I currently live, but by the end of the month I'll be moved to their area) the Mom straight up asked me if I was going to date her daughter, it caught me off guard a little bit but I appreciate the bluntness.

My (then) girlfriend introduced me to her father simply as "the man I'm dating." He sized me up, we chatted, and then said "wanna see my guns?" Been cool ever since...and that's been since 1991.

He even still lets me shoot all his guns.

 

Yeah, usually it's a dinner thing to meet the parents after many dates.
