I don't think i've ever been past 4k rpm. Trucks got more that enough giddy up passing other vehicles below 3k rpm. Its quite similar to my old 2001 tundra with the ability for more.

I’m interested in what everyone in here is going to say when the new generation Tacoma comes out, with whatever drivetrain, compared to this engine.
Curious, as the 2nd gen 3rd gen grudge match was unexpected, after watching and weathering the 1st gen handover to the 2nd gen.

I like mine well enough. I compared it to the baby GM and Ford offerings and liked it better as regard’s performance, ergonomics and looks.
Yes my diesel X5D was more powerful, more comfortable and quieter but the diesel emissions system was a crack whore once the 10 year warranty was up.
Got outstanding trade value on it.
This SR5 is just what I wanted for moving my mountain bikes and river kayaks. I am happy for me and hope whatever you drive gives you happiness too.

i suspect most of us will like the performance improvement. if it's reliable, most will welcome it.

other than the MT, i think the used value of 3rd gens is going to decline IF, IF the next gen is reliable from the get-go. i hope toyota learned their lesson with the tundra but, i doubt it.

All i can tell you is one of my buddies that owns his independent garage claims those ford eco boost trucks are making him very wealthy rebuilding those turbo's. Its just another part of servicing these trucks he wasn't doing in past years.

The days of the drivetrain staying around for 5+ years is gone. we wont know if its reliable until you can no longer buy it.

All the work vans have shit they’re eco boost turbos at around 100-120 K miles, to the tune of 7 grand each, a couple of them took months to get back on the road during the Covid horseshit.

If one thing I learned through the years, loo is that simple is better. Thing will get very interesting down the road I’m sure . For now I’m good with my plain Jane Tacoma. Does it have quirks here and there yes . I am totally ok working around them . Overall up till now it’s been a great truck. I’m not interested in an eco- boom engine at all.

I've enjoyed and appreciated all incarnations of Toyota trucks since the 80's. To me they were the opposite of the arrogant, entitled and indifferent big 3.

If the 4th gen moves away from QDR and or becomes something like the big 3's typical fuckery I'd lose interest and or trust. I'm optimistic that the new 4th gen will be yet another desirable product loved by most who may own or want one. Just look how wildly popular the 3rd gen is to date. Why is that despite a few criticized inherit Toyota design/engineering quirks?

Imo, toyota always built conservative, reliable engines. I just hope they still offer something down the road without more complication.

Just got done with a Pentastar 3.6, and thought it was quite the bombproof little V6........

Until I hit the dreaded 80k - 90k mark. After $2800 in Rocker arm/cam follower + bearing work I sold the Jeep on E-Bay. Loved my JKRU, but it was NOT reliable when into higher mileage, and I do take good care of my vehicles.

My current DCLB Is no rocket, but it tows our full loaded off road trailer at around 2400lbs - 2700lbs loaded + all our gear enough for 2-3 weeks without issue. Not sure where the total pig comments come from but I honestly have had NO issues towing weight, and loaded with gear.

My Pentastar issues started with some very slight ticking at around 85k and by the time the wife and I returned from an adventure in the G Smoky Mtns by Robbinsville NC (2800 miles or so) , the ticking had turned into much worse/loud ticking and some very slight hesitation. It was a gut punch after having the Jeep for so long, and doing SO much with it.

i guess it depends on what suspension you have but mine defnitely doesn't ride like a car. it rides a lot better with 500+ pounds of gear loaded up
