Too many people on here think Toyota can do no wrong. It's a weird way for them to justify the money they spent.

Can't believe no one has dropped the phrase "car engine" yet.

I would prefer a Toyota v8 over the 3.5, but that’s not gonna happen. That said, I really do like the 3.5, no complaints from me.

    ok I’ll help you out
1GR : TRUCK ENGINE, sometimes used on the A1 Abrams tank when they’re short on power plants

2GR : originally designed as generator to be used for RVs during camping. Later Implemented into regular cars and then the Tacoma

Pardon my... um... lack of knowledge of Toyotas? First timer to Toyota looking at possibly buying a new Taco. Never owned a Toyota, but IMHO it's the best mid-sized truck out there. Why all the hate towards the 3.5? Is it that bad? Is the 4-pot a better engine? It can't have more power than the 3.5, so what is it? Is it just not that great of a motor, power-wise? (I'm used to the Pentastar v6. Not a power house but I never had an issue w/ one) I'm assuming the reliability factor is still high.

Most folks that complain about the 3.5 don’t even own one, they just echo what others are saying on here. Same was said when 2nd gen was being released.

3.5 a good engine that gets decent MPGs, has plenty of power when needed and is proven to be reliable.

Its the same when some buy the tacoma with the 4 cylinder strictly on price. They later wish they spent the extra, and got the v6.
