I've grown tired of shifting with my first gen. Yup you've heard correct. I'm muling over buying a 4WD 2nd Gen V6 with an automatic. How's the driving experience. If you put the boot to it will it move? Or should I just look for a 2nd Gen 5.7 Tundra RCSB 4WD

Ive had both the 6 speed and now have the auto. Hands down the auto is better. Its also quicker than the manual, which seems backwards, but that's how it is. And yes, slam the gas and its snappy.

Its also a very reliable transmission. Very few issues ever pop up.

Good luck finding a rcsb tundra, i wanted one but they are extremely hard to come by and stupid expensive. Im talking 07 with 115k for 20grand!
But i did what your talking about, went from 02 5sp to 05 auto. Motor has some power and moves fine. 2nd gen is a decent bit larger and those suicide doors on access cabs are the best. Trans is pretty smooth as well. If your in nj, your welcome to drive mine

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
It's one of the all time great engine and transmission combinations.

It appears to be reliable and adequately powered for 95% of my driving. I do find the V6/auto combo lacking in power on the highway, but my only other frame of reference was full sized Dodges with straight 6 Cummins in them.

You should probably have that looked at by your local dealer instead of spamming that video in every thread.

Auto with the V6 is good. I find myself shifting it to the 4 position on some roads. it's kind of hilly in my area and it wants to relentlessly shift up and down. And they go pretty decent if you put your foot in it.

Buddy had a 2011 dcsb with 180k with no issues. Got 1 more mpg over my 6 speed that I think is odd still. He just traded for a 13 tundra because he needed more truck.

My little dog really likes it. She can sit in my lap and look out the window without me moving and disturbing her to shift like we were in my old 98 Tacoma.

Agreed. Over the years I've had trucks with 22RE (three different 5 speeds), 3.4 V6 in T100 5-speed, 4.7 V8 in '06 Tundra auto. They were all great engines each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Toyota's automatics were pretty primitive when mated to the older motors, they had a fuel economy cost. The Tundra's auto was amazing just as my current Taco's auto is. These automatics can be just as good if not better on gas.

I'm starting my third year and just about to roll over 27K. I started towing a 2300 lb (dry) trailer this year and I've dragged that thing all over Colorado, over several of the highest paved passes and one back country dirt pass. You feel it back there, but I don't hold up traffic. Up jeep roads, 4lo and 1200 rpm and it pulls that trailer just as if it wasn't back there. I've only done moderate 4 wheeling, but the truck is stock other than heavier leaf packs. Only my T100 was a better 4-wheeler. For gas mileage, I got right at 20 mpg on a recent tank that included two 4lo trips for 45 minutes each way up and back down a jeep road with the trailer.

The engine performs very well, adequate power for my needs and more importantly, if you keep light on the throttle you can get over 22 mpg even in high elevation like Colorado. There are things I'd change about my Taco, but the stock engine/tranny is spot on.
