I ordered October 17th and still do not have a build date. Dealer states Toyota is going to give me cash back due to the inability to fulfill the order in a timely manner but I'm getting the feeling the dealership is dropping the ball and perhaps they are the ones giving the cash back. Has anyone else heard of Toyota doing this and should I be contacting Toyota directly? I don't want to piss off the dealership, doing so will only cause animosity and I will not trust them in any service or warranty work.

    Any suggestions?

I wonder if some of the dealers have a status rating with the factory, if a large dealer, can get about whatever and when they want or can get away with some things. Have a high priority for shipments due to volume. Where I work, some of our large dealers (non-automotive) can work around some requirements.

What model did you order and why are they telling you that color combo is not possible? Also, what region are you in? I am headed in today to put a deposit down on a build with the same color combo for an Inferno w/ Black interior 4x4 TRD Sport. If they tell me that I can no longer order this combo I kindly walk. I spoke to a handful of dealers in the last couple weeks and not a single one told me this was no longer an option. I would suspect your dealer may have a line on an already built truck with most of what you want minus the interior so they may be selling you a line of BS. That would be my guess. I will soon see if this combo is no longer an option when I place my order this afternoon.

I would be willing to bet the dealers that produce more sales get higher numbers get priority over the smaller ones that don't perform as well. I know when it comes to the TRD Pro 4Runners (What I was originally looking to buy) the better performing dealers seem to get a higher allocation than those that don't.

In regards to searching for one on line and asking the dealer to swap. In November, I found one, and that dealership was only 50 miles away. They wouldn't trade because they already had two customers trying to purchase it. It was gone fast. I found a few others, a very few, across national searches. I was very specific in what I wanted, and for the money I'm spending, I'm not doing a fly and buy unless they flew me there and gave me a discount. If anyone can do this, or has, then more power to them. I am just stating that I am willing to wait for what I want and have it conveniently delivered locally. I don't get a lot of vacation time, so I'll wait. I plan on having this truck for a very, very long time. So I'll get plenty of use out of it. Stay patient, I've heard the wait is well worth it. BLK DCSB SPORT 4X4 MT Tech and Tow, Black interior.

I know this to have been true at one point and is probably still true now. Customer service survey ratings drive this - that survey you get in the mail after you buy a car or get service. There's a hot new car, your internal dealer ratings suck, you're not going to get very many of those cars to sell. It's the biggest lever the manufacture has against a dealer.

Agreed. I'd shop around until I got EXACTLY what I wanted, for that kind of money for sure! In the end, I'd be happier if I had waited instead of settling for a truck that was not what I really wanted. Good Luck!

The dealership I ordered from told me they get priority because they are a high volume "truck" dealership. Said chances were they can get my truck before other dealers. I considered maybe they were telling me that to get me to order from them (which worked apparently LOL)

I'm only 9 days past order/deposit so too early to tell...

Placed an order for an Inferno DCLB Sport 4x4 with Premium/Tech/JBL and tow package on 10/15. It arrived yesterday. Took about 3 weeks longer than the dealership originally estimated but they kept me in the loop any time the estimated delivery date changed and I wasn't in any sort of hurry in particular. Glad I waited to get exactly what I wanted. Well, not exactly since I wanted a long bed with leather seats and that's not an option of course since the limited is short bed only here in the states. I figure adding leather at some point will be much more feasible than stretching the bed.

that is something that bug's me... we are basically ordering the truck, straight out the line with our name on it... we should be able to have it any config we want... See... in Canada, longbed = Auto Short bed = manual... sand colour not available on dblcab trdsport... some weird stuff like that...

It's like I told the Dealer " I'll be driving this Tacoma for 15 years I can wait for 15 months to get what I want " He got out of his chair and came around the desk and shook my hand and said " you are the first customer this month that hasn't come to bitch me out over a long delivery I appreciate that very much" No need to be an asshole, these guys are just doing their job and delivery once they place the order is out of their hands.

I like your way of thinking... my issue is the more relating to not knowing when than waiting...

It's really is odd. I'm sure there's some sort of justifiable reason behind it but they really are leaving money on the table. I mean they have leather seats in the limited so just put them in the TRD sport. I'll gladly pay extra. They will make more money.

14 day before getting to the dealer, but I don't care, I'm not counting the days.

I am with you on the Long vs Short and Manual vs Auto, but where are you seeing that you can't get a DC TRD Sport in quicksand? If it is from the build website, that is just a reflection of what is in inventory in your region, not what is available to be built.
