We'll that's cool. I finally got my temp VIN yesterday as well. Ordered my truck on December 28. It is slated for production the week of April 25th at the San Antonio plant, so I've still got a while to go.

I noticed on the build sheet there's a letter after the model number. Mine says '7545G'. I know 7545 is a DC SB OR MT but I don't know what the 'G' means. Does anyone here have more info? Thanks.

    Background:
Ordered a DCLB OR in BBP on 11/16 putting a $1000 down. Harassed the dealer for info every 2-3 weeks with no progress other than the order has been placed.
    UPDATE:
Felt like I wasn't getting accurate info from the sales people so I called corporate and complained. Have had 3 calls from the dealer since, including one from the GM on Thursday. Was told that the owner of the dealership has been brought up to speed and that he is personally trying to figure out were my truck is. Apparently, a SOVR was submitted back in Nov. When I asked if they new if Toyota had accepted the SOVR, but they couldn't/wouldn't tell me. Still not sure I believe what I am being told, but it is nice to have corporate on my side.

So I asked my dealer for a vin and said they didn't have one until the truck is at the dealership does that sounds like bs to anyone?

Total BS. My dealer gave me my VIN as soon as the truck was being built.

The dealer I am going through told me they would send me the VIN once the truck was built.

I got a temp VIN until it was built, then they sent me the actual VIN the day it was built.

This is a little late, but my new Taco finally came in (2/22/2016). I have been traveling for work off and on, and haven't had time to post all the details & pics. Anyway, here is the timeline, if anyone is interested:

1/9/16 - Walked into dealer (Inver Grove Toyota) in the Twin Cities area, and eventually settled on an allocation the dealer had. I requested they change the color from White to MGM. Walked out with with a sales contract of sorts, and a temp. VIN#. I put $500 down

1/12/16 - Sales Manager emailed me to confirm the factory had accepted the color change, and to expect delivery mid Feb. - mid March

2/5/16 - Tacoma has been built

2/22/16 - Dealer calls and has the Tacoma ready for delivery. Sign the papers and drive her home. Very Smooth over the entire process. AND FAST comparatively.
    IMG_2740.jpg
2/23/16 - Dealer had previously agreed to buy my OEM tires and Wheels for $1,000, so I had a set of FN F(x) Pro Wheels and BFGoodrich All Terrain KO2s in load range C (265/70-17) ready to install. LOVE IT!
    IMG_2793.jpg
    IMG_2771.jpg
    IMG_2774.jpg
3/1/16 - Install some L-track along the front of the bed for tie down points for dirt bikes. I will cary up to 3 dirt bikes in the Taco, so I love the flexibility of L-Track for tie down points.
    IMG_2806.jpg
Dealer had her filled up for me, and I have now filler her up twice. ~17.5 MPG both times. Not the greatest, but when talking with my neighbor who has a lifted Chevy Silverado that he claims get 5 MPGs, I am going to enjoy my truck and not care about MPGs. Especially with cheap gas!

My daughter (3) has named the truck "Jeb". I have no idea where she came up with that name, and we don't ever talk politics around her, and def. not about Jeb Bush. I was thinking of doing a vanity plate of "JEB2016" because of my daughters name for it, and the year, but I think people will think I am a Jeb! fan, and I don't think the IRS will let me write it off as a campaign contribution...

After 500 miles, no complaints. Love how smooth it shifts, and drives. Way better than my 02 and 05 in every way that I can tell so far. It is also my first new car, so I am kinda taking it all in, and enjoying it. I hope it will be my last new car (not a fan of driving new cars, and when looking at the cost of used low mileage Tacomas, it almost made sense to go new. Combine that with how much I love the new body style, it was a go. Hopefully it won't be a bad decision when I go to sell it... If I ever sell it... :)

Now its time to take the old GasGas 300 XC out for a ride... :bikewhoops:

I got the L-Track from http://www.uscargocontrol.com (~$40), trimmed it to length, then to attach it, I pulled the Aluminum bed rail (black bar across the front) off, which was held on by 5 torxs machine screws. I then matched the 1st hole on the L-Track to the first hole on the bed rail, and then drilled and counter sunk the 4 remaining holes into the L-track. (Kind of a bummer that the pre-drilled holes in the L-track did not match at all, but...) Super easy install, its very versatile, and i can take it off and put it back to stock configuration if I ever want to.

Cool, thanks for the info. I have a dirt bike and two street bikes that will often be in the bed and a front rail would be sweet.

Only drove 40 miles with stocks, but the BFGs seem just as smooth. Love the look, and have always loved their performance on other trucks.

Wrote him back and asked if the 10th was the day it was being delivered or manufacture? He said delivery to dealership. He then asked when I would like to come pick it up? Obviously I responded on the 10th, but I asked if they need a day to prep? He said he would get back with me... Well, I should get it sometime this week! He has been nice, but not very knowledgeable and his cryptic messages always have me wondering wtf he means. But besides that, it has been a good buying experience so far.
