Thanks for trying to help JD. I've seen a couple of those threads before and haven't had a chance to dick around with the 50 flavors of semi-success with all the variables in truck and phone models, etc. But from that I did learn to perhaps try using the Entune app. But that just seems like an extra step, and a fussy one at that.

I will also have to try just completely uninstalling and reinstalling the apps on my phone.

Nothing should be this hard for enjoyment. With a longer commute and a kid, this is now more important than ever to unfuck. I just don't have the time to troubleshoot stuff like this that is so nebulous and hit and miss.

I understand, it's frustrating. Yeah It might help setting it up through the app suite. But if the app is on your phone , and you engage it , then select Bluetooth audio it should work.

With a tight schedule it's probably hard to run by dealer. It might be the thing to do if you can. Congratulations on the New Place.

@JD'STaco guess what....I just posted there:

My Droid Tubro with Verizon, which used to work fine with the entune app, no longer does, and hasn't for a long time. Tethering error. Tried all sorts of disconnecting, reconnecting, etc.

It works sometimes, occasionally, by just starting the Pandora app on the phone and streaming straight Bluetooth. But I've gotten long pauses and blurbs of noise doing that more often than not. About to try a straight aux cord. Yay wireless.

And this is very interesting: service-by-service and phone-by-phone compatibility matrix with entune apps.

    https://www.toyota.com/content/entune/responsive/pdf/EntunePhoneCompatibilityList.pdf

Its singles out my phone as being incompatible with the entune apps. Which did not used to be true. Yay.

All I have otherwise is a 16MB Ipod that needs a serious library overhaul. I've been thinking of loading up some thumbdrives. Again, stuff I just don't have time for these days. Grrr. And I really like being able to just pick a channel from Pandora while driving, especially fro kid-friendly stuff I'll need and don't have.

That said, he really likes my Talking Heads channel.

OK, I figgered out some shite, which I posted in the entune thread too:

I learned a little bit more yesterday because I was so pissed off. I had never previously used the Entune app to run Pandora. It had worked without it in the past. Then at some point, I kept getting a tethering error message. So I figured I should try this to at least sort out the Toyota/OEM headunit end of the deal.

    1. Before I left the office, I logged into Entune, found the Pandora app in that, and while I was there switched on higher quality.
    2. When I got int the struck and started it, Entune in the head unit immediately prompted me to download an update, which I installed. This had not happened in more than a year, so I guess it was triggered by logging in to the Entune site and app.
    3. I started my phone's Entune app and selected Pandora.
    4. It worked. Huh.
    5. Sound quality, even on high, sucks ass.
    6. The user interface seems different than I remember, and it seemed I couldn't use the touch screen to select channels.
    7. I could use the steering controls to change channels and tracks, but this did not visually appear on screen (cursoring and highlighting).

Result: got it to work (for at least a half hour on one day), totally not worth it for low quality sound and janky interface.

NEXT UP: Bluetooth from Pandora on Droid Turbo on Verizon in well-covered area.

This had worked well for me, but one day I suddenly started getting intermittent blurts of noise that sounded compressed or scrambled, between long silences (perhaps 20 seconds?). I could tell it was music, but sounded like superfast, super-short shots of it.

I had an A-ha! moment then. My phone memory has been maxed out for a while, and I'd been deleting some stuff occasionally as a bandaid. I needed to really clean out a ton of videos especially. I moved a lot of stuff to my PC to free up phone memory.

Result: Fixed it! Just didn't have enough room for buffering Pandora data I suppose. Worked flawlessly all the way to work this morning.

Still has be thinking seriously about a better aftermarket head unit, but not any time soon.

But you have the USB port in the console, above the aux jack, right? WTF? Maybe the format of your thumbdrive is odd? Have you tried different tumbdrives?

Also, send me a link to your A-pillar RAM mount. I'm looking hard at those. I have one of those console try ones, which has been a great, effective, interim option, but I really need to be more heads-up.

Yeah, I only messed with it for like 5min a long looooooooong time ago

may revisit that sometime in the distant future

For the RAM mount, I followed this thread to the tee

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mod-a-pillar-ram-mount-gps-phone-holder.372250/

I bought various length arms and ended up using the simple 1"

Keeps it tight to the pillar, but in perfect view.

Yeah, I've been reviewing that one too. I thought you might offer a pic. But that's OK.

Did you use the X mount to hold the phone like most people do? @DVexile used a holder with a flip-top clamp that looked pretty nifty.

    EDIT: pic

That is a really short mount, but looks like it is right in the sweet spot. What device do you mount? Phone? What type?

Thanks. What did you do for cordage/power? Inside the pillar trim and under the dash to the console? Or did you put a USB in the left side switch panel?
