    Actually even the rocks split open because of the intense heat. Found that in the aftermath of the fire we had here. One group of structural firefighters during 2003, had their position overrun, and it was only through the experience of the senior members that they flattened themselves to the ground on people's lawns, and kept the younger members from trying to run away. In another instance they retreated into the lake, to be picked up by the fire boat.
    CL-215s are the older versions with the radial piston engines, CL-415 have upgraded to turboprop jet engine. That video clip appears to be from Europe, where the CL-415 is very popular. the run on the highway truck fire was from Canada - Labrador region. Its a common technique for remote areas, so they can get the roadway opened sooner. Usually its a foam drop, versus just water. Separate tank inside the aircraft injects the surfactant into the water tank after the pickup.

    as for recovery, there were new plants growing within 3 weeks. The place was eerie - you could see lines of white ash where a tree fell over, and was entirely consumed. Fire stayed underground for a while burning along the root systems. Made wandering through the area liable to fall into a hole, and twist an ankle. The ground surface was hydrophobic dust, in that any rainfall sent up dust clouds; it just would not absorb water. The standing burnt trees became a hazard, you did not want to be in there in a wind storm, and in fact we had rescue calls for just such instances. Its recovered well enough to support another fire now 15 years later, though the trees will take decades to grow back. Without any vegetation, flash floods were a problem on what was just small creeks before, so lots of mitigation work and adding rip-rap to creek banks where they flowed through urban areas became necessary. Some areas the burned sticks were logged in the first year after the fire, where the fire went through so fast, the tree branches burnt up, but the main stem of the tree just had bark damage. The charred bits of the tree are very hard on the sawmill equipment though.

    Tourist. No, their backyard was roasted rather well last time round. Fuel modification has taken place around many of the interface neighbourhoods, where ground fuels are raked up into piles, and in accessible areas, a chipper comes in to reduce piles to smaller organic material.

    folks are prompted to do the right thing around their property. Different from the US, most of our 'bush' is Crown land, owned by the public.
    US has Federal BLM lands, but there is overall a way higher percentage of privately held land base. ie Texas is 95% privately held.
