I guess it is just a natural progression that this “build” thread is now a “burn things down” thread...

I just sent back my 4x innovation shackles, which will not work with Dakars. They did redesign/relocate the troublesome gusset, so since refund was not an option, he offered to replace with the new version...which also does not work with Dakars, I have discovered. So I need to unload those to some non-Dakar having dude. I'm considering the BAMF HD shackles, which are better thought out, but out of stock. Honestly, I'm reluctant to get them without first attempting to stop by his shop with a spring pack to test the fit and articulation. All that said, shackles are easy enough to R&R, so it shouldn't stop me, but this is pretty much how everything goes these days. Valuable time wasted.

Ordered my new Leer, 100RCC, front slider folddown, sliding vented windoors both sides, Thule tracks up top. Any week now...so I have to sell the gray xq and I'm looking at installing a garage hoist right now. Before we go camping Aug 14. I have no idea how I'm going to get any of this shit done.

Hoist for dealing with cap, etc. I was was looking at the Racor lift, but apparently they've implemented "profit-making measures" in the recent past that have deemed the formerly well-reviewed contraption into a dangerous piece of shit. So I'm looking at the Harken Hoister setup now. Nice thing is you can get them in different weight ratings, and different line lengths, which lets me got to 200 lb and 12 ft. And the material appear to be top notch. I think it will also give me better angles (like vertical) on the 2x4s supporting the cap. because I can make them truly plumb, rather than angling from 4 ft wide to 7ish feet wide on a modified Racor...and those anglers get worse the higher you go. FIL just got back in town and is very handy and a sailor, so I'll have the extra hands, brains, and speed (equalling reduced time) to knock it out.

Camping is Sequoia NP developed campground at about 6000 ft with another family with two boys either side of Ben's age. We've done all our post-partum camping with them. Good forecast of Really Big Trees and Bears.

In fact, Ben is so big now, I'm giving up my berth in the teardrop and will be trying out the newly acquired Ibex camp cot in the truck bed. It should help us all sleep a bit better, but frankly, the wife gave me a bit of a stink eye. I pointed out that we could get shitty, minimal sleep as he flops all over us all night, we could improve everyone's odds of useful rest.

EDIT: Since the new Racor appears to be shit and I'm getting the Harken, I thought I should give it some ad space too. This is the max capacity they offer in terms of weight an line length.

Yes please on the Jlee deal.

Here is the 4x flaw regarding Dakars, here with an AAL thrown in for the full effect. Really, it is the very long tips of the Dakars that does this in. Many other packs with a more pronounced stairstep staggering progressively away from the main spring eyes would likely fare just fine.

Note these ears go to vertical very quickly. From what I can tell of the available pics on Jerry's site, his taper all the way down to the barrel, reducing this pinch point as much as possible.

LOL not much, but I'm a side sleeper too mostly. This will fit in the 6' bed with the tailgate closed. Found a thread on here about it. only two sets of legs that clear the wheel well. No brainer.
